Road wheel nuts and that wheel brace in the tool kit

Friends, new to the L319 page as I've just purchased a 2.7 D4 and I'm sure this question has been addressed before. After 2 weeks scored my first flat tyre so had to swap it out for the spare. Imagine my surprise when I found that the supplied tool wouldn't fit onto the wheelnuts. Nor would a 22mm Sidchrome socket. Had to reach back to my SAE socket set for 7/8th inch which did fit, but was a bit fiddly getting it off again. Today I got out the Vernier caliper and measured about 22.2 mm across the flats on the wheelnuts and slightly less on the tool. I tried dressing the internal flats of the tool with a triangular file, but it's still not a satisfactory fit. How are others addressing the problem?

When new they are perfect but a tyre shop air gun destroys them in no time. Mine work happily now with a 7/8 extension impact 6 point socket. Just only do up to 140Nm.

The factory nuts are skinned and can deform. Either buy new factory nuts and get a correctly sized six sided 22mm wheel socket, or get some solid nuts like Tuffant sell as replacements.

And if you get really desperate - you can buy a 22.5mm 6 sided impact socket to remove swollen nuts that you can’t get off.

Just replaced all my wheel nuts with Tuff Ant replacements. No more issues for me. [bigrolf]
