Am I the only one to get this annoying page when I log into this place or even when I refresh a page?

Given that Inc had to shut down the whole site due to a number of DOS attacks recently I reckon it's a small price to pay. At least he didn't go with Captcha, or we'd have to identify all the pics with bridges or crosswalks ( whatever they are ) or bicycles every time we visited. Cloudflare only takes a couple of seconds. Welcome to the future.

He did say... (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/aulro-admin-news/298088-dos-attack-some-sort-15-4-24-a.html)

Strewth! Imagine the kerfuffle if you had chosen 'R2D2Dave' for a forum moniker!

Didn't get the request for proof.

I know if you have cleared all history you will be asked for proof. I cleared all history on booting up this morning. I first went to Yahoo (proof required) then to AULRO (no proof required). Does the successful proof hang around in your browser history and therefore AULRO has no reason to have you run the test again? If I go back to yahoo it will not ask for proof again, unless I have cleared history since last visit. Your mouse movements and other prior searches may stop the request for proof. Hmmm...I attached a link to an explanation of captcha...if you see 'just a moment' where the link should be then that's not my doing.

Just a moment... (https://www.cloudflare.com/learning/bots/how-captchas-work/)

its either that or shut the place down as it was unusable with system loads 5 times what it was setup to handle and it went on for days and days

i now have to spend more money each month to keep the place alive but it is what it is..

if you are constantly seeing the are you human thing then you have way to many things playing with cookies and crippling your net experience.... but your decision what to run on your own systems

Yep. I dont really see why it would bother anyone. As far as I am concerned if it makes load on your system less and improves any form of security I'm for it.
AULRO is a wealth of info and its worth is more than anyone (as in paid users) could put in.

I'm also sure if you put a payment link somewhere, on a website? that people could also give a one off payment, I have no doubt there would be people out there that would give to the cause.

I pay (willingly) each month ($10) to LR workshop as I find it a wealth of info and of value.

It is, but I cant see why anyone would bother with DOS attacks here . maybe I'm a bit naive in that regard.

All DOS attacks are often just probing weakness to see if they can exploit other weakness. Inc is saving some personal data and possibly even some private details in messages we all do not see.

Exploited data is valuable in more ways than ever now. Reddit floated on the stock market for example. Its selling all data to AI companies for large language models data sets.

Dave may be able to as well of course[bigwhistle] I wouldn't mind as my stuff is usually TRIVA or grumpy old man stuff [bigrolf][bigrolf][bigrolf]

DOS attacks are usually bots. It's like the spam we all get, they only have to break through once. All our details are online somewhere. AULRO is just another source for them to attempt to exploit.

There was a recent breach on my ISP. They didn't get much apparently, but it caused VicRoads to issue me with a new DL with another number on it.

The only cookies I know how to deal with are the ones I eat. As for the computer ones, all I know is that I often have to tick a box approving the use of cookies a lot.

As for the "you have way to many things playing with cookies and crippling your net experience" is not my decision. Me not knowing anything about computers means the computer itself makes these decisions.

AS for my original question in the OP, I was not being critical, I was simply asking a question, as I seem to often have problems that other people don't.

If this what is needed to keep the place working I accept that. I also had no idea of the recent problems that was encounted.

Or just company. I'm in the same boat. Or overboard, possibly.

are you guys who are sharing this minor problems using mobile phones?

I have one and never use it , well , rarely.

If the person ringing me doesnt leave a message with id it automatically hits the spam bucket.

I use encrypted email too and if youre not following protocol you get binned too.

Texting is another one....why do mobile phone users expect me to respond to their **** abbreviated messages that I cant understand?

Friends/relatives/ people who need to be in contact have no problem following protocol.

Btw , I still use the perfectly operating land line every day.

I am human, those who know me never ask.....some ask me , "are you fair dinkum?", yep.
