why would Ford fit a VW engine ???
Next engine is supposedly a 2.4l out of the Transit.
and Land Rover diesels don't figure in the US as they've never sold them there ;)

I wonder how it would go in a 4X4 though. Although it certainly does look the goods. How did they rate it (like what criteria) and what did they rate it against

Top ten of anything is very difficult - but diesel engines have been made for over 100 years in probably over a hundred countries, in powers from less than 1hp to tens of thousands, used in cars, trucks, earth moving machinery, ships aeroplanes, stationary power units, shearing plants - the list goes on.
Apart from the well known brands in cars and trucks, how about some of the perhaps less known ones such as Sulzer (ships), Sabbmotor (boats), Junkers (submarines and aeroplanes), Packard (aeroplanes), and even local ones such as A.H.McDonald in Melbourne (road rollers) and Southern Cross in Toowoomba (industrial and agricultural engines).
Better define top ten and how you measure it!
