OK...what did we eat on the recent Hay River trip? Well the fresh veg lasted varying times...potatoes, garlic, sweet potato, pumpkin and onions lasted the entire 6 weeks but the tomatoes and carrots lasted days only. So we had dried veg and fruits ( bought a dehydrator before the trip). Meat we had vacu-packed chicken and steak, and dehydrated mince ( also bought the vacu-packer especially for the trip). Best of all take a hunter...very handy for getting fresh meat like pigs, camels, fish and yabbies. We ate REALLY well. I was surprised that camel tastes quite good as roast, steak, curry, stew...you name it. We had 5 roast dinners over the trip as well as BBQ's. I can recommend yabbies on the BBQ done with garlic butter, or camel vindaloo. Who says you have to eat Spam!!
Oh and we also had a black tie dinner....roast pork with all the veg and trimmings. Black tie, lace tableclothes, candles, champagne....camping in style I say!!

what do you mean you don't like spam?
You've got to admit it's better than camp pie!
We usually take canned foods including vege's, they taste like school dinners but you can live on them.
What exactly does a Camel Vindaloo taste like, I must try one, one day

I was under he impression that in countries to which the camel is native, the camel often takes the place of the woman.

Just like beef vindaloo, but with no beef taste at all, it's more of a camelly taste instead. :D

Oh no...I read somewhere recently, in one of those camp oven cookbooks about a Chocolate Coca Cola Cake. Talk about utilising every ingredient you've got. Camel sounds yummy though. I'll have to go find me one!
