Hi all.
After reading the posts in regard to the revised defender, one would have to think this is the beginning of a down hiil slide for the current icon .
Its a bit like VW all over again, the new ones are nothing like the old!, but you still see the old revamped models tootlling along.
Ford input was always going to change something, & with further speculation of landrover ownership you can bet your left nut that big changes will happen in the next five years.:angrylock: :angrylock: :angrylock:
I know one thing! my old 130 tdi tray back will have my **** sitting in itfor the next 20yrs!! :D :D :D .

You Defender drivers are such luddites;)
We Disco drivers have become accustomed to re-engineering.:p
Mind you I am holding on to my D1.

Well, actually the slide began a long time ago - probably when the 4BD1 was replaced by the 200Tdi. Or perhaps when coils replaced leaves. And the introduction of plastic dashboards MUST be in consideration as the start of the rot, as must the introduction of pendant pedals. Perhaps when the wheelbase was increased from 80 to 86".........

Nah, I think things started to go bad when they started using that new fangled internal combustion engine! Bring back the bloke with the red flag, I say!

Now there is simplicity and a rugged design, with readily available spare parts (avalable from any nearby tree, as is the fuel). Is that what you hope to subtract your Disco down to Mahn?

I will let 'performance ' make the final judgement.

Whilst the tow capacity remains at 3500 kg I won't be trading in my 96 130 that tows 400 kg .... although a little less cabin noise would be nice

Things really went bad, from when you could no longer use the grill as a BBQ.

Surely someone here could engineer one to fit Defenders with quick release or wing nuts & clever fold out legs :D , I'll order one.

Did anyone ever actually use their Series 1/2 grille for cooking? I have never talked to anyone who has actually done this, and I lived through the era. My experience was to use the shovel (I can remember a very nice meal that would have been very expensive if caught....) - never occurred to us to use the grille.

I won't be in a possition to upgrade anyway so will stick to my beastie. I still want the TDV6 with the 6 speed auto though.

Yep, Ive done it, The shovel, over a bed of just flaming red coals, is great for steaks, the grill I found really good for fish if placed over a bed of just ashing coals.

Perhaps a grill something like this, Bryce? Would even monogram the steak nicely if you used the inside :)

yep, you could use my Defender grill(e) on the barbie as it's made from two layers of 1" square weldmesh, hinged at the bottom to take some air conditioning filter media to protect the radiator, etc. from grass seeds and locusts.
I could even use it as a toaster ;)
Ok, it mightn't have come from the factory like that, but the spirit of the II and IIa lives on.......

I looked at the pics. Looks nice, I think ability would be the same if not improved. I think the only drawback is more electricals and the impact of wading thru water. My 200 TDI does not have this problem.
But I'd love the new one, service every 20,000 KM, not bad!
But that bonnet bulg, relly looks like garbage, I would expect that from holden or ford, dodge, GMC, but not from Landrover!

The bonnet bulge has come about after years of research and development into how to stop the water that pools on the bonnet when driving in a rain storm. The new design has been CAD designed to channel the water away from the middle/edges of the bonnet and stop it from splashing back over the windscreen every time you slow down. Will be a major leap in LR design for the next 20-30 years. I think it's right up there with the change from sliding windows to windup type:cool:

I guess if anybody's REALLY against the new design they could always import a Santana.
