N70Z Batteries, trickle charges and stuff

Hello All,

It looks like the two N70Z batteries that came with each vehicle I bought have exceeded their operational lives. The trickle chargers they were hooked up to have stopped charging them. I hooked up an old fashioned straight charger and it did not make any difference either.

What brand of N70Z battery have you had and are have been happy with their dependency and efficiency?

Also I have a couple of trickle charge battery maintenance chargers Projecta, Voltage and Battery Fighter. I probably got the lower models of these different brands.

What brand and model of trickle chargers have you been most happy with?

I would not have a clue how old the two now dead batteries were before I bought their respective cars. No obvious perforated dots to lift out to signify the month and year of purchase. I suppose I did pretty good with the life I got out of them. It would be good to be able to do better though.

Hi Lionel,
I bought a Ctek MX10 many moons ago and I find it good to recharge batteries and for general maintenance.
I am also having problems with my battery on my FL2 but have a new battery on the way from fleabay ( itm 226061516268).

Lionel, sometimes ,if a battery is dead flat, the charger won't recognise it.

Connect the dead flat one to another that is not flat ( a couple of old cables ) and then try the charger.

Hi Lionel, can you measure the voltage on each battery.

Measure with no load and then turn your ignition on, do not try to start the motor.

With the ignition on, measure the voltage again.

If the batteries are stuffed, it will be a 12v reading with no load and anything down to 7v with the ignition turned on.

If this is the case, then charging will most likely not work.

If the voltage reading is low in the first place, with no load, then do as suggested by Hogarthde, and this MIGHT bring the batteries back.

I will follow your instructions after work this afternoon.

In the meantime - on past occasions the battery has been on the trickle charger and the charge indicator such as a gauge or a steady green light has suggested the battery is at its peak charge. Then once connected back to the motor vehicle there has not been enough charge to trigger the starter solenoid. Or a very pathetic and sad attempt of rolling over the starter. This has happened with different brands of recharger. As I mentioned previously - I am not sure how old these batteries were when I bought the vehicles they were in.
