rf receiver ?

morning guys

wondering if theres any way to check whether or not a rf receiver is still all good?

went for dinner last night and wagon wouldnt lock with fob, so locked manually and figured id get stuck in to the forums when i got back home

so far have checked
-2 sets of keys, both lights blip red when buttons pressed but no lock/unlock
-checked with nanocom that both key codes still stored as i read if battery dies the bcu can 'forget them', both codes still stored
-did go to start before going for dinner i might add, wouldnt start but popped open engine bay and negative terminal had come loose so nipped that up and fired up straight away, battery is fine according to nanocom (14.2v - 14.5v)
-checked rf test to detect keys, neither keys detected
-checked engine bay fuse for corrosion/blown fuse, no corrosion and fuse is fine
-drove to a park to make sure no radio interference possible, fobs still wouldnt work but blipped red when pressed, still no keys detected by nanocom in bcu utilities

i dont have sunroofs so wouldnt imagine water ingress could corrode the receiver, but also it is a land rover

is my best bet here to find a working receiver drop the lining and swap it out? have read its plug and play. Naturally this happens before i head in to the bush this weekend, just wondering if theres something ive overlooked here..

Last check, does the security LED do anything when you push the fob button? This was pointed out to me recently. I have an intermittent remote lock issue. Every time I test if the key press is received I get a yes, but I can only do this from inside the car. When I can't open it from outside the LED stays dumb.

In your case, if the key is NOT being detected then I guess it's the receiver, It is plug and play, if you call removing the headlining P&P. All you need to do now is find one.... Beware, there are two different frequencies. Most Australian cars were delivered with 433MHz. Other markets like NA got 315MHz. Doesn't matter as long as you have matching fobs, so if you get one from the US get it with fobs.

This is the likely culprit, and yes, corrosion, especially at an earth, can be the issue. I don't have RAVE at the moment so I don't know where this thing earths, but I'll bet sierrafery does. (EDIT: Obviously, after looking, it earths on one of the mounting studs. )

cant recall if the led on the dash does anything when i press the fobs but will try that shortly, i don't think it did. and noted re 433mhz did a bit of a deep dive with the search button last night and commited that tidbit to memory haha. thanks for the pic good to have the p/n

Welcome. That one's out of the D2, not the D2a, but I doubt they'd change it. Ain't broken, don't fix it, right?

I think I'll pull the headlining on mine and check. It's mostly a curtain held up with drawing pins anyway. Time to fix that as well.

I was told recently on my thread (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-2-a/299558-security-system-again.html) about this that the US stuff is cheaper, if you change the freq and need new fobs. Worth a think.

both fobs are fairly new, as in 3 or 4 years old not 20 haha. from heathy over on d2boysclub so dont think new fobs will be on the menu

just checked again and no light from the dash when fobs (either of the 2) are pressed. think ive sussed a receiver so thatll be a next week thing and hopefully all sorted!

this did happen all of a sudden after battery connection coming lose (negative) and it not starting..


i know the BCU is sensitive to battery reconnection if it's not carried out as it should which means earth lead first - sierrafery


In the end I disconnected the battery again and reconnected it correctly to reset the BCU. Now I have remote keys again! - Billt

i always disconnect the negative first before doing work, from rave it says earth lead first, dumb question incoming but does this mean neither the negative or the positive lead but literally the earth ? was hoping for an image in rave haha

It means the -ve post on the battery. And yes, on a -ve earth car always disconnect neg first. I found this out the hard way as a teen. Undoing the +ve and the spanner came into contact with my watch which was touching something on the body. Welded all the links of the watch bracelet and came close to ringbarking my hand. It isn't just the electronic stuff that is sensitive....[bigsad]

thought this would be the case will just use key in the door until sussing a replacement

obviously hoping not a corrosion issue as would prefer no other suprises from the bcu if so!

Hey med yeah man it did my bad for not posting as such! Good used [emoji640][emoji639][emoji639]mhz receiver and all is well and has been since
