Its with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved (most days) 2011 HSE 3.0 D4

A 12 year life span, we ordered new, with a 8 month wait way back in 2011. A gleaming D4 in Nara bronze with DVD players/heated seats and diff lock which was my dream car for the family. It took us to Victoria and back (from WA) - north and south of WA, and whole lot around our home in the wheatbelt. The most comfortable car, powerful, towed, off-roaded and explored all while fitting 4 kids and wife in comfortably and safely...well as comfortable as you can be with 4 kids in the car...it bounced a few kangaroos with little fuss and always continued on (we did find and put a factory bull bar on and then never hit another....[wink11]), only once made a tow truck once (alternator). It saw the kids all grow up in it and all kept safe.

445,000kms and while not with out a few hick ups, the engine and gearbox remained true...despite the nay Sayers it was simply awesome. Ok replaced the turbos, alternator, suspension and usual ancillaries, but for the car put up with all those crap dirt roads for years its been perfect. in fact far better than its relative contemporaries and for far more kms..I am sure this is the car LR imagined the Disco 4 to be....

Unfortunately while driving on a high speed road some with dogs ran across and with my daughter driving, the car pile up ensued and the D4 last in the line took a big hit (well gave one). 2 cars in front hit each other first and then entered the Disco.... middle car was concertinaed...front car also a mess. Luckily all safe and no one really injured, but unfortunately the Disco cannot be economically repaired...

We would have loved another one back just before the cut production of the mighty D4 off, however the timing did not work out and we kept on with our 2011... We simply loved the car and family cried as we bid Farewell to part of the family [happycry]... Thanks Disco 4 you were simply awesome (and thanks to this group - greatest source of info and backing a LR owner can get)

Damn! Doesn't even look that bad. Glad you're all ok. Someone was looking for an engine recently...

Yes glad to hear that flatbeds and not ambulance beds were required.

After all those kms from new, what an abolute bugger that it can't be repaired. I would be gutted much like you are. I know it is still fresh, but have you given any thought to what you may buy next?

Might be too late, but if you can - remove any accessories before the insurance assessor reviews the car.

If you look in the Marketplace, on this forum, it appears he's done that or retained the wreck.

RAC retains the wreck I am afraid - will go to Pickles for auction but parts quote was in excess of 30K alone. + paint + labor so she is gone.

I can clear out what I what (what's not bolted down I can take). car got a slight bang in the rear too.

Its shame and sad.

i have stared to look around - hard to replace it as like for like in D5  is 140-150k - similarly for a defender. will look at second hand D4s but damn the risk is real despite my amazing run
