View Full Version : Looking for some key hangers for in the Trayon

The Trayon camper has an array of external cabinets and drawers with different types of locks thus different keys. I'm wanting to hang a selection of keys in one of the cabinets or inside the camper so that we don't need to have them all on a keyring but the obvious problem is that hanging a key on a hook will be no use whilst travelling on rough terrain. I've looked for some kind of adhesive-backed hook with a carabiner-style clip but I've come up blank. Anyone seen something like this? The location I want to use is a narrow vertical panel so I need about half a dozen single clips rather than a panel with multiples.

Can you change the locks, so they're all keyed alike?

a better option would be to like key it all so you only need one key ..... that's what pommy caravans have.

A small key locker with a block of foam glued to the inside of the door to keep the keys snug on their hooks when closed for travel.

Eg Google Image Result for https://media.screwfix.com/is/image/ae235/2735X_P?$fxSharpen$=&wid=257&hei=257&dpr=on (https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.screwfix.com%2Fi s%2Fimage%2Fae235%2F2735X_P%3F%24fxSharpen%24%3D%2 6wid%3D257%26hei%3D257%26dpr%3Don&tbnid=PBedNO-UsNn_bM&vet=10CBQQxiAoAmoXChMIgKbqxJa1hgMVAAAAAB0AAAAAEBo. .i&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.screwfix.com%2Fp%2Fsmi th-locke-20-hook-key-cabinet-safe%2F2735x&docid=qq3tAEhi4MXuCM&w=257&h=257&itg=1&q=small%20key%20locker&client=safari&ved=0CBQQxiAoAmoXChMIgKbqxJa1hgMVAAAAAB0AAAAAEBo)

I've considered keying alike of course but there are at least 3 distinct types of locks; there are five drawers across the rear under the camper that I have keyed alike and use a double-sided key; three cabinets with a different lock arrangement to the drawers (all keyed alike) which take a single-sided key; a proprietary water filler neck which would involve some dismantling of the interior of the camper to access the lock barrel; an external shower unit that could no doubt be easily keyed to match the cabinets; the main entry / steps that has a different type of latch to everything else; a security mesh door that is different again. Some of the above have single-sided keys and some double-sided. So yes I'm sure it would be possible to have one key but I suspect it would involve purchasing numerous locking mechanisms to take the same style of keys to one of the other groups. Or I could stick a few plastic hooks on a panel inside the door.
At present I have 3 keys on a ring that are easily distinguishable from one another and provide access to everything needed for setup but this leaves me with 3 less-used keys that I want to hang on a panel inside the door that is approximately 40mm wide.
My wife found these at Bunnings yesterday 4pce Self-Adhesive Grip Clips 8mm Removable for Running Cable/Wires (https://www.artsuppliesandhome.com.au/4pce-self-adhesive-grip-clips-8mm-removable-for-ru) , they're not really designed for repeated opening and closing but I'll give them a try. I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be anything much more specific to the task.

Otherwise an eyelet to clip a carbine hook onto. Carbine hook of a size so that the key is able to be attached to it - either directly or via a key tag ring. Don't know how much sense that made [bigsmile]

at least 3 distinct types of locks

Out of curiosity is this as supplied by Trayon?

We didn't buy ours new but yes I think this is the standard arrangement, it's the second one we've had as we wrote the first one off and it was pretty much the same with the exception that the external shower was keyed alike to the three external lockers. Have to wonder what feedback they get from new buyers at around $50-60k with something that should be easily sorted at source.

Good to know those screw-in hooks with the clip are available, the preferred location is only a thin aluminium panel but I could fasten a strip of plywood to it and screw those in then, Might go that way if the cable clip things fail.
