Hi all, I bought what I believe to be a series 2 109, from a farm in Tenterfield, on checking the serial plate it is warn smooth and there is no stamp on the front right spring hanger, the only numbers are on the pressed metal corp stamp are, 109 2984 any assistance in identifying my beastie would be appreciated
Cheers Owen

Both of my Series 2’s had a chassis number on the left rear spring hanger…

Series 2 or 2a?
My early Series 2a number is on the rear of the rear of the LH spring hanger. Took a while to clean it up so readable.
Have a look and see if you can see anything.
From memory an early S2 with 2L motor (121) I sold had the number in the same spot.

If it is an Australian built 2 or 2a it should have the number on the LH rear back spring hanger, facing out. You may have to remove multiple layers of paint and/or rust to see it.

I spent about an hour with degreaser and a wire brush with no joy, my next visit north will be in early August so i will take some paint stripper and an electric wire brush. ill
add a couple of photos in no particular order, the good thing is he / she starts but doesn't run well. The old stromberg they put on just leaks fuel. the plate for the serial number is completely smooth 190561190562190563190564190565190566190567190568

If you take the plate off, you may see remains of the stamping.
HB pencil rubbed over the back may also help.

I managed to remove the plate, alas it is not original :( no joy on the rear left hanger as yet, looks like it has been repaired/ replaced as some point, I do have engine number and gearbox number.

Engine no 15191439
Gearbox 151028918
By the colour of the engine it looks like it may have been a GEM rebuild at some point,
I got the try off today and with Diana’s advice will get a flat file on the chassis tomorrow
