Hi All,
I thought I might start a thread that will not only help me but others that are planning the "Great Escape" whether now or in the future.
I have a duel fuel (ULP + LPG), system in my '93 Disco' and I want to get away for a while and see the country I've always loved best. (Song, "Hey True Blue" playing in background.)
I want to know how far north I can get in QLD on LPG before I have to drop back to ULP. Recent, up to date info' would be best and I'm hoping and guessing that some servos will be putting in LPG to cater for those of us doing the "wander" in the not to distant future.
From the Top End in QLD I intend to drive down through to Alice, not necessarily by bitumen, as I would like to get the wheels dirty when I can and get away from the procession of "Grey Nomads" that are blowing their kids inheritance out there (you know who you are!)
From Alice I’ll drive up to Darwin ( all mudcrabs and large fish should leave NT territorial waters now), and then take my time driving down the West Coast until I get to Albany and from there I’ll drive back to the Central Coast via Sydney.
I’ll be towing a 6m Steber (’68 restored) which does run on ULP although I am thinking of doing an LPG conversion on that too as I have done on my Disco’. The boat shouldn’t be any harder as long as I put on oil injection so that the motor still gets it’s oil along with it’s fuel.
Any ideas on a spares kit would be will received, although being a Disco, I expect the girl to be bullet proof as she has been for the last 4 years (insert manic laughter!) Seriously, she has never left me on the side of the road although the occasional loss of aircon’ has been irritating.
Those that have done this type of expedition I would love to hear from as well as those of you who have done portions of this intended trip.
TIA,
Pete’
