Just thought I'd save some of you the heartache that I had recently.

Defender 2013 110. 277000+km on the clock.

Only work ever done on engine: Intercooler and hoses & EGR cooler.

Engine started to become reluctant to start. Motor turns over, motor fires, then stops. If motor starts it runs normally.

In short, replace the Cam position sensor 200000km plus or 10 years old. Mine had the plastic deteriorating, and engine oil had gone into the sensor. Just order ford part, its cheeper!

Sensor is only used for starting, as one the cam is synced to the ECU, sensor is not used at all! Hence the normal performance.

Dont add it to the maintenance list, I have had 2 fail in all the many years.

It uses the cam position sensor not on every start, i suspect say when its likely been left overnight perhaps in correlation with the crankshaft position sensor (which is a far more common fault).
The symptoms are as described by the OP as in it starts sometimes, then engine stumbles like it almost starts then doesnt

yes Land Rover round $300 - $400, Ford under $100 6C1112K073AC

All good as long as the parts purveyors will supply on description. So many only supply when given a VIN or rego number. :bat:
Volvo and Saab are others that use, common with mundane cars, parts at grossly inflated prices.
