I just noticed that I could smell diesel/smoke fume inside the cabin when the car is running either the vent is closed or open.

Can anyone tell me what could be the problem? Thanks

The cabin is well sealed, so the obvious thing is that there's some leak in the engine bay that is being sucked or blown into the cabin. Take the engine cover off, grab a torch, start the engine and have a good look around. Follow every pipe and check every joint. Particularly down the sides of the motor. Look for signs of a leak at joins, like moisture or discolouration. You're really looking at pipes under pressure, but with so many pipes and tubes it's difficult to tell the difference unless you're familiar with the motor. So, just have a good look everywhere. Next step would be to take it to your nearest Indie.

It’s SDV6. I will try to check the pipes/joints if there is any leak.

Is there a way to permanently closed the vent?

Fix the car, not the vent [emoji2357]

Fumes in the cabin can cause a permanent sleep.

Diesel smell as in unburnt fuel? Then you could have an injector or injector rail leak, risk of engine fire if the mist is fine enough near a hot turbo (or two).

Exhaust fume - leaking or cracked exhaust manifold, failed EGR or leaking flex exhaust join after the turbo outlet (exhaust side).

As said, fix the car not the vent, exhaust fumes in confined spaces is a bad news story waiting to happen.

I think it is exhaust smell and coming from vent when it’s open. Will check if there is any leaks. Thanks

Mine was injector seal. Another clue that its whats going on is if the smell really only happens once the car is hot, not right away when starting

I sometimes get a diesel exhaust smell when I let the car idle whilst stationary. I recall reading somewhere there was a software update to the aircon system that addressed certain valves being out of synch but have not looked further into it.

It turn out to be the copper washer on one of the injectors had failed.

They replaced the washer and all good now no more fumes getting into the cabin.
