Remember the Samsung Galaxy Note7, Note S7 and S7 Edge fires? Phones on flights became problematic, and the S7 Family were banned from aircraft. Not saying this is going to be a repeat of that debacle, but there may be ramifications. Even infrequent flyers like me carry laptops.

It is a big issue, and increasingly becoming a more and more regular event for at least 2 decades now. Over 50 incidents a year just in the US and on the increase as people own and travel with more and more lithium battery powered personal devices.

The biggest risk is someone packing lithium batteries, mobile phones, tablets or laptops into their checked luggage even though it is banned.

I pack each lithium camera battery in its own plastic bag and separated within the camera bag.

I'm not sure if it helps reduce any possible issue.
