Looking at a D5 second hand and will tow a boat - not worried about MPG or gen maintenance - Which is the most reliable motor to go for one that wont throw a crank or implode.
Background
I have had a D3 V8 for 14 years bought second hand and now done 350k and trouble free motor (all the usual maintenance everywhere else).
At the time I bought it it was a time when the V6 diesels were being rebuilt (just out of warranty). The TDV6 had known issues. The petrol V8 although rarer at the time and a bit more exe to buy, were (time has told) the better engine. Costlier to run but cheaper if engine was to be replaced as many did.
What is the best motor available for reliability for the D5 - prefer to go diesel but if the Petrol ingeniums are more robust, I will go for petrol ...
Please if anyone knows of common engine faults on a specific motor, please advise.
OR
For towing could it be worth going for the Diesel V8 in the L405 2019+ year models?
