Guys...
This follows on from this post: 2.4 Tdci Puma with 231,000kms - started using Engine oil (1ltr/4>5k kms approx.) (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defender-county/299960-2-4-tdci-puma-231-000kms-started-using-engine-oil-1ltr-4-5k-kms-approx.html)
Just after some people's experiences with high mileage 2.4ltr Tdci Defender Pumas with the grade of Engine oil they use...
Brief history - I'm trying to determine why the sudden oil usage on my 2010 2.4 Tdci Defender with 232,000kms on the clock. I currently use a Penrite 5w30 Full-Syn Oil and this has been fine up until the last 2 oil changes. For the past 2 services my engine has used a 1ltr of oil per 5000kms (Service intervals is at every 7500kms).
The Turbo appears to be running normally (sound wise) - There is evidence of oil getting through and into the Intercooler and into the Intake Manifold (this is visually seen from oil residue around the intake manifold).
I do not have a EGR & the Injectors, to my knowledge are still the original ones and seem ok but do have a slight rattle when coasting along (ie no load).
I've had people mention that the Injector copper seals could be the cause but I cannot see how as the injectors are located outside the rocker cover and thus any leakage would be visually evident around the injector itself...
I've been told and have read that some recommend to try a slightly thicker grade of oil (example: either a 5w40 or a 10w40 Full-Syn oil which work fine for our Aussie hotter conditions).
What "grade of oil" do people use for high mileage Tdci Puma's?
Using a 10w40 or a 5w40 grade of Full-Syn oil - will that cause any issues?
thanks in advance...
