View Full Version : Petition Victorian National Park changes

I want to let all members know that the Victorian Government are looking at reclassifying the State Forests to National Parks and implement new restrictions for general public. I would like all members to look at the two current petitions against this happening and please vote to prevent this happening.
Victorian National Parks aren’t looking after what we have there are feral animals and weeds everywhere if they make the rest National Parks and lock up the bush we won’t have access to camp, fish ,prospect or visit our wonderful areas. I usually don’t get fired up but I believe it’s time to stand up to keep some of our freedoms alive and by signing the petitions is a way of doing so. Below are links to help with this issue.

if this proposal goes ahead 4wding and camping in Vic will be pretty much gone with only a few gravel roads open to the public

NO TO GREAT FOREST PARK (https://notogreatforestpark.org/)
Is this the area? "The park would extend between Kinglake National Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinglake_National_Park) (west) and Baw Baw National Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baw_Baw_National_Park) (east), Lake Eildon National Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Eildon_National_Park) (north) and Bunyip State Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunyip_State_Park) (south).[3] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Forest_National_Park#cite_note-3) It would encompass 355,000 ha of land, including the Yarra Ranges National Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yarra_Ranges_National_Park) and existing state forests such as the Cathedral Range State Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_Range_State_Park) and Toolangi State Forest (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toolangi_State_Forest).[4] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Forest_National_Park#cite_note-Milman_2014-4)"
It seems to be joining up a many of the existing National Parks we can visit mostly now? Toolangi is a great spot I visit often. More often in my disco.
The no side - Opponents of the park include the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooters,_Fishers_and_Farmers_Party),[8] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Forest_National_Park#cite_note-8) and the Victorian Association of Forest Industries,[7] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Forest_National_Park#cite_note-Henderson_2014-7) that opposes any extension to the state's national park system
This is the website for the proposed park The Great Forest National Park (https://www.greatforestnationalpark.com.au/)
I fired a question to them about my food harvest hobby "will responsible Hunting and access for Management, hunting and harvesting of deer, rabbits and similar occur in the proposed Great Forest National Park (GFNP)?
In areas managed by Melbourne water where no hunting and harvesting of deer, rabbits and similar occur. The deer population is not managed effectively, the unmanaged deer population spills over into Melbourne frequently now. Could you please clarify if GFNP animal management for Deer in particular will be dealt with by all stakeholder or only by the Government?"
If the response is only them, I will sign it. We all love 4wding, camping and perhaps fishing and hunting. We can all see some have no respect when they are hooning about in the bush in and outside existing National Parks.
We can visit the Alpine National parks and with some restrictions go 4wding, camping and go fishing and seasonal hunting/harvesting Deer.
The ADA posted this and more...
"The alignment of the Outdoor Recreation and Environment portfolio is a recognition that users of public land, such as the 50,000 and growing licenced deer hunters, are stakeholders within the Environment portfolio.
Within the report, VEAC has made comments highlighting a fundamental misunderstanding of public land use by recreational deer hunters. It suggests that recreational deer hunting is not compatible with National Parks.
This is opposite to reality, where public land deer hunting occurs in the following National Parks without an issue:
- Lake Eildon NP,
- Mitchell River NP,
- Baw Baw NP,
- Alpine NP,
- Corner Inlet Marine and Coastal Park,
- Avon Wilderness Park and
- Norramunga Marine and Coastal Park.
Concerningly, the interim report nominates 300,000ha of state forest to be turned into a National Park spread across three areas without acknowledging recreational deer hunting as a recreational activity to be undertaken there.
Instead, it suggests a new land tenure, "Forest Park", accommodating "some hunting".
As it stands, the interim report leaves a lot to be desired.
In its current form, the only thing it will achieve is locking out working-class folk from public land.

I wasn't aware deer needed licences. The ones around here seem to have no respect for authority at all.

I'm not sure if it's still the case, but there was, supposedly, a bit of a quandary in Queensland in regard to the hunting of deer.
They are considered a feral pest here. However, the story goes that they are all descended from the original deer, which were bequeathed to the Queensland government of the time, by the then Queen of England.
The issue is that the deer are pests, but without regal permission, it is illegal to hunt the Queen's deer.
True? Dunno.

Deer hunting is far from the only activity that the proponents seek to do away with in the proposed park. A friend is a fanatic gemstone fossicker and that too will end. You probably won't even be able to walk your dog except in the local 1/4 acre dog park with everyone else.
Petitions will of course have no effect as this is an ideological decision, the proponents are elitist academics and politicians who seek to end blue-collar pastimes in the bush and preserve the bush for it's own sake, not considering human beings to be a legitimate life form outside of the leafy suburbs. The plan includes the handing of management over to local indigenous groups which will empower persons with no experience in land management and an agenda of their own, purely on the basis of race.
On the other side, from a perusal of the facebook groups, the anti-park movement is being hijacked by activists who are linking it to their left-over uneducated and self-absorbed angst over the covid lockdowns. I just can't align myself with groups who are going to use the same rants and chants that were used to deny the reality of something that I was experiencing first hand just a short time ago.
I'm at a bit of a loss, meetings and petitions are meaningless as the decisions have already been made, the elitists will get their desires pushed through as they have the government and the media power, the opponents will be allowed to look like- and allow themselves to look like- uneducated ignorant yobbos who should be ignored. The only winners will be the weeds and the feral animals.
I would be tempted to suggest that people just continue to do what they have always done, ignoring the new signs and whatever else pops up, but that might be construed as promoting unlawful activity- which I would not wish to do.

Its a similar situation to Elephants i South Africa. Stop Hunting etc to conserve them. Now their numbers have grown so much they are eating out the National Parks and spreading into farm land etc They are so big they just knock over a complete tree to eat and laying waste to large areas.
Just a moment... (https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=728083&d=1722234318)
Dingos on Frazer Island. Breeding up in big numbers. Eat out their natural food supply and become a nuisance.
Greenies should think through the problems to what will happen.

So you want everyone to do nothing ,accept what is happening and move on because some people who disagree with the National Park plan also disagree with vaccine mandates and the locking down of the whole of society
A very defeatist view, I personally will do everything I possibly can to stop this madness so future generations can continue to enjoy the bush
Having just done big trip through NSW and QLD with lots of hiking through National Parks I can assure everyone that this proposal is the last thing Victoria needs nor is it the best way forward

Yes I agree it's a defeatist and frustrated view that I expressed. I see it as the reality though, that a leftist government will just go ahead and do what they have decided to do without paying any attention to those they find themselves able to label as 'right wing'. As anyone who leans less than 10 degrees to the left in this country is labelled as 'extreme right wing', I'm afraid you will find yourself very easily dismissed.

I wish people would stop conflating things like this with things like vaccine mandates. Very many people had extremely good reasons for making the decisions they did, and there is mounting evidence that tends to validate their choices, which after all were individual.
Banning people from using land that they own is an entirely different scenario.

It was only up for 2 days and I’ve only spotted the post today……
and how to you tell how many AULRO members have signed the petition??
All members, what about members that are supporting what the government are doing and don’t want to sign…….
I’m from Tasmania can those outside Victoria sign? If so then I’d be happy to sign.

No need to reply……
Only Victorians can sign, maybe you could have mentioned that in the first post
And one link says the petition ends on the 8th august or was it the 9th, pretty sure you posted after this date.
Well that’s 5mins I’ll never get……I should have scrolled past when member are calling everybody out for not supporting their cause like I normally do……

I was one of many that encouraged members to get involved with the Central West Investigation that although the majority of respondents explain they didn't want the State Forests involved to become National Parks it is happening anyway. The local environmental lobby group I believe now where used by the state government to achieve a predetermined goal.
Spend some time and look into the international agreements Australia has signed up for, there are requirements for minimum reserves of land of which National Park status meet and State Parks don't, by changing the status Australia meets its obligations under the agreement.
