Secret Hose

A while ago I got rid of the secret hose and all associated pipe work.

I just put a rubber blanking cap over it. Last year this hose, being about three years old, failed.

I went to super crap and purchased another. This lasted just on 12 months and it also failed.

Obviously it was an inferior product, don't remember the brand.

Has anyone had this problem and what is a good brand? Are there any options to thread and cap or plug with a steel cap or plug?

I've just got a bit of off cut heater hose and a chunk of random metal to seal it off on mine, couple of hose clamps - job's done.
There's nothing special about it - just use good junk.

I did the delete job on my Defender 5 years ago and just recently replaced the factory cap on my late D2a, again I used the same 19mm silicone cap from Samco, available from Kudos. Recommend.

So clearly the secret hose is not needed, why did Land Rover put there?

It was to be better coolant flow through the oil cooler then maybe they realised that it's effect on the oil temperature is neglectable

This is how I did my roadside fix. A shackle pin being being the random metal.

I just preferred the cap method as the above creates one more potential leak point.

Earlier cars it went around the back of the engine to the EGR cooler. LR were too cheap to make a new part.

Removed the hose on Leaky when I put a new radiator in. And yep a few years later it blew the blanking plug apart, I saw the steam come out the back when it went, so stopped straight away. Was a 100Km trip on a tow truck to Bendigo and a 400Km trailer trip to home [bigsad].
I check the plug every time I'm near it now.
