Hi All
I have had a problem with the AMBER engine light illumination staying on after engine start. (see below).
This has been on ongoing problem since Jan this year. Initially it illuminated randomly. That is when I switch the ignition off and restarted the engine sometime later the light stayed on sometimes but most of the time did not.
I was concerned so I took the vehicle to a dealer for diagnosis.
The answer I got was:
"could be a number of reasons:
- faulty sensor or wiring. Verbal quote for replacement was $1,500.
- starter motor drawing too much power
- ring gear worn teeth"

Well, I concluded the following;
1. Unlikely starter motor drawing too much power because a) surely they could check this and b) I have not flattened the battery. A
2. Unlikely to be ring gear worn teeth (215,000 km logged) By the way they told me this part is no longer available.
3. Therefore most likely faulty sensor or wiring.

Based on the above I decided to do nothing.

Now the AMBER sensor light stays on all the time and so I am a little concerned that my conclusions may have been wrong and/or I am inadvertently doing damage to the catalytic converter as referenced in the manual.

I am looking at doing a 6,000 km trip soon. Any advice on what I should do would be greatly appreciated?

Is the sensor in an accessible location, start with replacing it and inspect the wiring at the same time.

As far as I know, Petrol V6 does not have catalytic convertor

They have two, left and right. Catalytic Converters have been part of ADR for petrol engines since the introduction of ULP.

On 4wd's and commercial vehicles they came in later around 1990 or slightly later.

Seems like a Crank angle sensor that is the issue. They are known to fail. Have a search on the reputable LR parts suppliers (rimmer bros, advanced factors, powerful UK, etc). A reputable independent mechanic would be willing to install a genuine LR part

Have a look at Ford Explorer V6 crank angle sensor .
They are the same engine and there are a lot of information there.
One of the symptoms of a bad sensor is hard starting.
