Brake Fluid dot ?

Hi Everyone

Sorry for the stupid question but I can’t remember for the life of me what is the correct bake fluid for a 101. I’ve been through the Workshop Manual and the User Manual and it’s not stated there or not that I can find.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would have thought a 101 have used DOT 3 originally, but DOT 4 is cross compatible and has a higher boiling point.

I would use DOT 4.

DOT 5 is completely different, it's a silicone based fluid.

How’s it going.

I think you are right. I have DOT 3 in the garage so I’ll top it up with that. I know about the boiling point. I’m hoping that I don’t get into a situation where the boiling point becomes and issue.

I believe DOT 5 can swell the hoses.

Dot 3 works better in older cars and all Toyotas .
IMO dot 3 is less likely to leak past seals , Since ive switched to Dot 3 ive havent had a single master or wheel cylinder failure.

I fitted a Tesla Model3 master cylinder to my Iveco 4x4 and it even says Dot 3 only on the cap. and thats one of the latest hi tech cars.

Dot 3 is slightly more expensive than Dot 4 but Its commonly available as its used by Toyota
