Hey all,

Completed the oil pump bolt check over the weekend (absolute PITA job, next time I'd be finding a bloke with a hoist) but I'm second guessing one step in the process. I followed a few different threads, notably the one at - www.discovery2.co.uk / TD5 "Famous" Oil Pump Bolt (http://www.discovery2.co.uk/Oil_pump_bolt.html) - but after completion I then read some more threads talking about how crucial it was to clean the thread out before new bolt install. Now I was absolutely cursing by this stage in the process, so it skipped my mind to clean it out (also access was minimal), so essentially I removed the factory bolt, finding it was tight but with no threadlock, and replaced it with the new Land Rover bolt with the threadlock from factory. I did apply some loctice 243, but if i remember correctly I believe most rubbed off as i was trying to fiddle the bolt into the hole. I am now stressing that oil may have gotten into the thread/hole, and that I've essentially made it worse than if I hadn't touched it at all. Am I overthinking? anyone else just remove and replace and it's been fine?

Thanks, it's my first LR so be nice!! :bangin:

I replaced mine without cleaning the thread in the shaft. Mine was like yours with the bolt still tight but virtually no threadlocker so I assumed that there wouldn't be much if any oil inside.
I did mine with the sump still stuck under the engine with minimal clearance.

Yep, exactly the same as how mine was done. Good to hear mate, still going strong I assume?

If you "replaced it with the new Land Rover bolt" part no. LYP101400 then they have dry threadlocker pre-applied on them, on the last one I did it was coloured yellow.

correct, it was a genuine LR bolt with dry threadlocker. But I guess I was stressing because I didn’t know if that dry threadlocker would be effective if there was oil in the thread. Here’s hoping it will do its job!
