Hi All
been going over the new 1952 80" S1 - checking to see how much is authentic original and missing!
using mainly with the good, interesting and newish book "Factory Original, Land Rover Series 1 80 Inch Models Originality Guide" by James Taylor (JT) and some 1952 model photos/videos on line etc

Chassis number matches year and is for a CDK RHD etc via CalVin and the JT Book
Wheels looks correct
speedo/dash look correct
radiator looks ok/correct 11/50 date stamped
D rear lights look original and correct
drawbar looks correct
smalll things like bonnet support clip - look correct

Chassis Number is 26660296
Engine Number is 111800780 this seems to have an extra digit - JT has 8 digits? It is a very clear stamp

Is this a 1951 motor ? It looks correct in configuration etc

I do have original Rego plate/number in SA (trying to get/buy that!) - I tried to check engine number on phone with SA Motor Registration - but they will not say/confirm that engine number is the same one -

Any thoughts appreciated

cheers
Nobby

It may be a factory replacement engine, as that number does not match any records. I believe that some, if not all, factory supplied replacement engines were shipped "bare" so to speak, the intention being that the installer stamped them to follow the original numbers.

OF - Thanks yes thats what James Taylor says - but he does also say that for factory reconditioned engines "there is a brass plate attached by screws, next to the dipstick hole and engine numbers were removed - The brass plate has the Rover Name and two numbers an engine part number and then a code to show where the engine had been reconditioned ie Solihull" Part Number is 245583 for a 1952-53 motor

I am a bit distance away from the S1 at the moment - but will check that out soon
bit of a mystery. I will also check with the South Australian Motor registry - in person

Thanks

Cheers

Nobby

111800780 appears to be a 2L !958 Series I spread bore petrol engine. (Oil filter on RHS).

Hi and thanks
I had a look at a couple of photos that I have - Oil filter looks to be on Drivers side ( not 100% clear as these were taken in a shed - I will check that out more when I am near the car.
It will be interesting to see what number is on the old registration info - ie what engine number is listed for the car.

I appreciate your thoughts/Info

Cheers

Nobby
