Hello, I currently have Falken Widpeak AT 235/85R16 on the LR Black Sawtooth Rims (see pic) - I'd like to swap to something wider and possibly MT (Maybe BFG KM3)
191714
- Whats the widest I can fit (disregarding legality) on this wheel? I think I've read 255 will fit OK.
- If I swapped the wheels (I dont *love* the sawtooth wheels) to steelies (Wolf?) - What size would I able to fit on thise (I assume Wolf Wheels are 16" too?)
I know nothing about offset etc. so assume I'm an idiot (not a stretch...) when answering.
Thanks
Neil

Are not all 16" Land Rover mags 7 or 8"? You should be able to fit 265/75x16.

I run 255-100-16 XZL,s on my new wolf rims.

The Saw Tooth's are 16x7 I assume 33mm offset.
You could fit either a 255/85R16, or a 265/75R16.
Both may rub on the radius arms, needing the steering stops adjusting.
The 265/75R16 is about the same diameter as you current tyres, the 255/85R16 is a larger diameter.
"Wolf" rims are 16x6.5 20.6mm offset, so they sit further out than the Saw Tooth's, and they are narrower, to narrow for a 265/75R16.

slightly off track. Can someone identify the offset of aftermarket rims coded T-7JJx16 886 Made in Brazil 920?
These were fitted to my UK built Reynolds Boughton Defender 6x6 with BFG MT and AT 265R75 16 tyres when imported

Could you not just measure it?

Yes I could, but I don't know the offset of the original Land Rover rims and the tyres are still on the current rims. The tyre placard specifies 6.5L 16 rims (0.5 inch narrower than the current rims)
This vehicle needs a full engineers certification for first registration in Australia and depending on the official rim width and offset (as well as load/speed ratings) will determine if the vehicle meets registration standards for track width and tyre ratings. I don't think a guesstimate established by measuring by eye will be sufficient.
After that I was hoping someone had better references than I have.

What vintage is the car?
6.5x16 sounds like it had Hi Cap wheels as fitted to 130s and Hi Cap 110s.
If so they are 20.6mm offset.
No idea about your aftermarket wheels, you'll have measure them.

What TonyC said sums it up.
To add to that....
I have fitted "wolf" wheels (16 x 6.5) to my Perentie, but they are a 0 offset so it pushes the wheel out further.
With these wheels I offer customers 3 tyre sizes to fit on the narrow wheel.
255/85R16 (but only come in a muddie)
225/95R16 (commonly called land cruiser take off tyres)
Both the above are pretty well the same rolling diameter (point something of a percentage)
or 235/85R16 (std tyre size)
the pics show a "wolf" wheel, 16 x 6.5 with a zero offset, 225/95R16 and the tread sits under the wheel arch, with a 255 i guess it would take it flush

Yes , the "Wolf" rims come in two offsets. I have the wider ones on mine too but run 255-100-16 XZL,s. They work well with the 4.7 diffs and turbo Isuzu 4BD1.

Can't help with wheels and sizes, but BFG KM3 are pretty noisy.Much noisier than Wildpeak AT.
My son had the KM3 on his Puma.

Sawtooth are 16 x 7, +20 offset
Wolf are as Tony quoted. i have a 130 and a HD110 and both are +20 offset. I didn't know about the zero offset offering.
You will fit 255/85R16 to either rim. Although BFG does say 6.5" is the min rim for a 255. 265/75 is arguably too wide for either choice although some will jam a 265/75 onto a 7" rim. I get a 315/75 onto an 8" rim with plenty of sidewall bulge. 8" is the min for a BFG in my size. 265/75 was toyota issue for a while so you might find it more price competitive and more available in regional areas.
I've had 3 sets of BFG MTs and currently run Maxxis RAZRs. both have served me well. BFG KM3s were designed to comply with European standard of 87 dB for tyre noise. i don't mind the extra noise of the MT, especially when confronted with a steep sodden hill in the VHC. All MTs will get noisey with age.

The zero offset "wolf" rim is an after market thing, KLR sell them.
In the UK you can get a 16x8 +20 "wolf", again not a genuine Land Rover wheel.
Toyo list 7-9" rim for a 265/75R16

Its a Reynolds-Boughton 6x6 conversion of a 1991 Defender, it arrived in Au with these rims. Actually the conversion was contracted by Land Rover Fleet Sales for Southern Electricity in the UK, and was fitted with a cherry picker body. Possibly SE required the 7 inch rims for floatation across muddy ground.
The 6.5 16L size comes off the tyre sticker but this may in fact be from a 130 (I call this vehicle "Ikea" as I acquired it in flat-pack without all the parts and including a LHD steering box and some parts off other vehicles.)
They are not Wolf rims.

Are you saying Ikea may have the wrong tyre placard, or it has the same placard as a 130?
My 1995 130 tyre placard states the front and rear axe loads, so it would be a strange placard to use on a 6x6.
Are you saying the wheels on it now aren't "wolf" wheels, or that wheels spec'ed on the placard aren't "wolf" wheels?
The wheels on my 95 130 aren't "wolf" wheels, but they are the same dimensions, they are ANR 1534, they are a non tubeless, riveted wheel.

On balance it's likely from a 130, the original cab is a blue grey while the panel with the tyre placard is white. Renolds Boughton are impossible to get info from, so if not 6.5 130 rims it's possible it only had 5.5 110 rims at delivery as I cant see Land Rover delivering with after market rims.

They are not Wolf rims. The wheels in that picture look like the heavy duty 'modular' style of wheel that are pretty common aftermarket in the UK, available in 16x7 and 16x8.
The 16x7 had at least 2 different offsets, 8mm and 25mm, I think.
Paddock spares are showing a 16x7 modular wheel with 8mm offset and a distance of 95mm from centre flange to outside edge.
Probably doesn't help you with the placard info, but at least might help identify those wheels.

Thanks Dan, It gives me a good start for measurements and for providing them to the engineer.
