Hi all
I have a 3 litre 6 speed d4 Hse. When I tow in either in D or S the transmission drops into 6th gear. At which point thru the IGAP tool all temps (gearbox, coolant, oil) all increase and it feels like the motor is labouring. At which point drop it back to 5th and everything calms down I usually travel GPS speed at 95 to 100km and hour. And yes I have the trailer lights come on when indicating. Why won’t it hold 5th and I have to manual do it. It will not drop back a gear if going up a slope some time the difference between the set cruise and the actually speed is plus 14km and hour. Is there anything wrong with my car?
My van is heavy north of 3000kg and total weight of both car and van is around 6000kg fyi

add more right boot to force a kickdown.

the oil temps rising as you shuffle more torque at lower RPMs for the same amount of work is normal as the oils under more stress at the contact points.

what you're seeing is relatively normal for a vehicle with learning driving and shift tech its learnt a pattern and is sticking to it, you might get a better result if you reset the adaptive learning features.

OR, just kick it down a gear manually

This also happens with my MY 2016 D4. I blame the terrible cruise control. It is so slow to respond, huge variations in speed on undulating roads, little or no engine braking. I use the paddles to drop down a gear or two in anticipation of a rise…
My wife’s 2014 Golf 103 TSI (adaptive) cruise control runs rings around it.

My Owners Manual also says DO NOT use cruise control in Sport mode.
