Towing mod's

Looks like i'll be towing a van on a regular basis now, and while i'm waiting to diagnose what blew up on the last trip, what are the mod's people do for towing? I found 80Km is not good on the auto, to slow to stay locked up and out of it's happy zone 95-100 seemed ok. Are there gearbox mod's, TCM reprogram? Different torque converter? Manual lock up override to stop unlocking un-necessarily?
Gearbox is going to have to come out, so while it's out what do i need to beef up?
TD5 Motor mods? Always been happy with just the boost turned up a bit (20psi max.), but now thinking a little bit extra would be nice for the hill's.
Van will be around the 2.5ton mark, pop top with ensuite, dual axle.

For the Auto, I'd get (and did) an additional ATF cooler. Don't get just any, you need one with high pressure fittings rather than the hose clamp jobs. Like the Davis Performance ones.

If your box is being rebuilt, get them to fit the 4HP24 clutch packs etc for 3 + 4th gear

When towing, tow in 3rd gear. You will keep the auto locked up far more often and it tows better.

The aim of the game is to keep it cool through greater cooling and less time with the torque converter unlocked.

It would be good to hear from those running V8 or larger torque converters, my feeling is that this would be a better setup also, but I haven't done this.

If you go to the Ashcroft transmissions website, they have a write up about what mods to do to the 4hp22 to make it stronger, as alluded to by Slunnie above.

I'd also go with the V8 torque converter, they don't sell the converter but sell a fitting kit.

As regards the rest, a tune will help for sure, but to really benefit the setup, a vgt world be the go.

It all obviously runs into quite a bit of money.

If you love the car and want to keep it, it's a good option.

I think it's still a good option despite the cost as the car is economical to drive and keep on the road once sorted, more so than most other options.
