Hello All,
In between applying for jobs and getting daily rejection notifications - I suppose at least some people do have the courtesy of letting me know that I was unsuccessful - I occasionally drift towards YouTube. I found a clip about a "will it start" and it features what could be a Triumph Herald. The channel's owner Mark Warran does not directly mention what car is being worked on. Someone in the comments mentions having two "Heralds".

Is Mark working on a Triumph Herald? If so, were the Heralds very popular and what sort of reputation did they have? The clip was accessed 28th March 2025 from £193 Ebay classic car purchase. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KowOI97bfk&t=1642s

Which year model is Mark working on and how common were they here in Australia?

Is it a metal or a fibreglass front clip - bonnet?

I am just curious ... you know "idle hands are the devil's playground" ... Not sure what saying is attached to feeling bored freaking rigid through being an under-utilised resource.

Kind regards
Lionel

I am fairly certain Triumph heralds were made/assembled here by Australian Motor Industries (AMI). There were plenty about when I was a young guy, but are hard to find these days because there was a class of open wheel race cars (up to 5 or 600cc motors) that mostly used the heralds independent rear end, and being cheap second hand, heaps were bought to get these suspensions. The triumph spitfire is based on the herald and had the same amount of rattles. I had a spitfire in the mid 60s and remember getting it up to 160 kmh valve bouncing down the Toowoomba range.

Yes, it’s a Herald. Dad had one in 1969. I know because I borrowed it after I wrote off my Jag MkVII just before I was transferred from Moree to Ceduna and had to go into head office to collect my plane ticket Sydney-Ceduna.

The bonnet was steel and was hinged forward giving great access to the engine bay.

Yup it’s a Herald, my primary school teacher had one in the 60’s. Yes the bonnet opened E-Type style and this was carried over to Triumph Vitesse, Spitfire and GT6 models are all based on modified Herald chassis and running gear with bolt-together bodies.

Re the job search, I received a rejection last week for a job I applied for in October!

The interior of the Herald had much cardboard, including the dash. I hope the windscreen was well sealed, or you could end up with a lap full of dash. [bigrolf]

The later 13/60 didn't look as good.

The dual headlight 6-cyl version called a Vitesse didn't look quite right.

Hello All,

Being a petrol head - when I see the little four cylinder motors and the available space around them in the engine bay, I start to wonder what capacity V8 could be shoehorned into them. Yes - blasphemy, I know ... ba ha haaaaaw [evil laugh].

A quick search on YouTube only produced a Triumph Vitesse V8! Accessed 31st of March 2025 from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOHYqGQdZ4U. No description if they put an English V8 in it though.

Oh well - enough distractions as I have a new job application that closes tomorrow. My break away from responding to selection criteria is over ... Sigh!

Kind regards
Lionel
