Mr Rhys 6 and Miss Charlie 7 came fishing with me. In-between baiting, unhooking, untangling and more I didn’t land a fish!
Back at the boat ramp a Gent asked “Did you get any fish?” Miss Seven responded enthusiastically “ We caught four Snapper, two gummies a Whitting and Dad caught NONE

Mr 8 Ray-en and his grandpa came chasing a tuna a LONG way out in some very bouncy water. Slow max speed in the rough water made Mr 8 a bit queasy. As we came back in he was in the seat beside me hanging onto the JESUS BAR. That’s the one you hang on to calling its name when a BIG wave was bouncing the boat a bit 😊 Dad or Grandpa was sitting on my ice box behind the seats.
As we came in the water flattened out and speed was added until we were doing 35 knts+ or about 65-70kph. Rounding the marker buoy at the turn to run in to the river we bounce or skipped just a little.
My son said “ Dad Grandpa’s not in the boat” I responded “Of course he is – he is just behind you”
My son said “ Dad Grandpa is “”really”” not in the boat!”
Grandpa had bounced out and was rapidly being left behind the boat!
Recovered a wet unhurt dad and took him home 😊 RIP Dad

My tall story is, I know a secret fishing spot that is so good for getting a bite, you have to turn your back to the water when baiting your hook, or the fish will jump up and take the bait out your hand.

Hi,
Tall but true.
Late 60s, off the coast of Thailand Google Maps (https://maps.app.goo.gl/uKqBuWYons9g8zRZ9) spearfishing with the RAAF scuba club, we came across sunken fish trap with a broken tether line, so it was unrecoverable by its non diving owners. It was in about 4m of water, heart shaped bamboo frame and chicken wire about 5m across.
Full of large fish, sweetlip, grouper and a large Moray eel. Talk about shooting fish in a barrel.
As they passed the opening entrance about 1m inside, they were speared and taken up to the boat.
Of course one twit had to take a shot down the gaping maw of the eel; idiot.
It bent the 3/8" stainless spear like wet spaghetti and took quite a few more spears to kill it and recover the gear.
With so many fish to eat, the eel was left dead in the water.
That probably is the reason I now only fish for food and not for sport.
Cheers

My story involves a certain Navy Diver. He and his kids had done a couple of laps of Port Phillip Bay, one with grandad, stopping regularly, unsuccessfully trying to catch fish. On the last try before going home miraculously they were reeling fish in as fast as they could bait and cast. James called time to go and as the kids packed up, Navy Diver leaned over the side and scrawled a large X, in chalk on the side of the boat. Charlie asked "What are you doing that for, daddy?" Diver replied " Marking where to come back to."
Sorry James, Saitch lives closer than you.

Shhh That my secret spot Ian[thumbsupbig]
Phillip Island is a holiday mecca in Vic. On a hot sunny day. ITS REALLY TRUE it happens once a year in VIC [biggrin][biggrin] I was fishing in Westernport a few km north if the Island. The 1000s of kids and people on the beach were enjoying the water.
I landed a snapper and lent over the side to wash my hands in the water. A shark about 3 metres or more came up and rolled away within a metre of my hands.
Bronze whaler, I think. Beautiful fish [B]Bronze whaler shark - Carcharhinus brachyurus
What you cannot see cannot hurt you right? Bronzies are like puppy dogs safe to swim with perhaps[bigrolf][bigrolf]

Amateur, everyone knows that you should mark both sides of the boat in case the X gets washed off.
