View Full Version : Warning - check your puddle light globe holders

The puddle light globe holders disintegrate and leave the terminals bare in the door. If you are lucky they will keep blowing fuse 9 or if unlucky in my case
, melt the plastic body of fuse 9 and cause the slow local heating and melting of the wiring loom in the door and join wires together which then leads to BeCM power board damage. See images attached.193268193269193270193271

I recently took the entire car apart (quite literally) and also came across those lights. Mine were still in good shape but I can imagine in hot climates the rubber will eventually give way indeed.

The actual cause of this was using a cheap fuse in fuse 9 - it didnt break the circuit when the short occurred in the puddle light terminals which were hanging bare inside the door cavity. All it did was allow excess current to fry the wires.
Always use good quality fuses that meet the standards. It was all I had at the time. See this guys testing of cheap fuses from china.
