Still smile when a V8 type gets a funny look as my tiny little BEV pulls away at any speed[bigrolf][bigrolf][bigrolf] ONLY UP TO THE SPEED LIMIT of course [bigwhistle][bigwhistle][bigwhistle]

Fair play to GWM, their 4x4's are very capable, and having driven a Tank300 several times, they're also nice to drive. For the price they're hard to beat.

Apparently the only other stock 4X4 to conquer the hill was an Ineos Grenadier. And I bet it was less body damage and driveline strain than the bouncing GWMs.

At half the price, you could buy two for when it eventually gives up [thumbsupbig]

That's like buying a circular saw from the green store and throwing it away because the blade's blunt and a new saw is cheaper.

That works for printers.

Yes, although I am determined to never spend one more cent on the awful ****ing things.

In theory an EV strapped to a decent chassis/driveline should be vastly superior to a traditional 4wd. Just imagine having 100% torque from zero revs. Would you even need a transfer case with low range ?

However, in the real world ... imagine towing ... doing beach work on sand. You petrol V8 4wd will use ****loads of fuel, if your anywhere remote, you will need fuel drops to be arrange ... Would you get 100km? .... maybe 50kms low range sand driving (lots of power, no speed) before running out of fuel. Now lets try the same with an electric throw-away. How are you going to charge it? Arrange to have a massive diesel generator air dropped where you need it ?

My biggest issue is though ....... Any moisture, especially salt water getting inside that battery enclosure. IMO this is the immediate downfall, its simply to dangerous to mix massive lithium batteries with lots of offroad vibrations and moisture.

Tesla owners found out, to their dismay and near death experiences, the consequences of mixing salt water and LiOn batteries in that storm in Florida. Then there was that Mitsubishi PHEV on test in SA. That didn't end well. When you take into consideration the huge numbers of problems China is having with their domestic market EVs I'd say it's a touch too early to be bragging about what some ute did once. My OKA would walk up that hill, and get me home, and I can sleep in it.... Pretty sure both my Discos, the newest one being 25, would walk up it as well. Not exactly a massive achievement.
The things will have their place, but the bush ain't it. Yet.

Similar to me the other day,at the green shed.

Two circular saw blades were around $20,packaged together,or the other brand at around $55,for one.

Mmmmmm, no! I think not. You'd have to give them a bit of a flogging to do it, if they even could. Unless they're fairly modded?

D1 has rear locker, deep reduction gears in the TC, a few other bits and bobs, and 33s. Tyres would be all that would stop the D2 I reckon. OKA is on 35s with LSDs. Plenty of tracks in the VHC that would make Beer O'clock look tame.

Agree.

There was a track near Willunga in SA that I had access to for vehicle testing years ago. I used it for suspension development on the D1, D2 and Lara (110).
Was significantly steeper than BOC Hill and had a 1' jump up rock ledge about 2/3 of the way up that would push the front wheels away from the hill.

Very scary if you got it wrong, with potential to flip the vehicle and tumble 200mtrs down the track. [biggrin]
