long time no see (i can hear the mods groaning)

i wanted to post something i had not seen before, the dyno run of my 3.6l v8 diesel twin turbo L320 RRS.
it has a aftermarket tune from TRS, pulling 148kw @ 3569rpm & 436Nm @ 2896rpm
these numbers are smaller than i expected. i was expecting 200kw and 600Nm. 600Nm as the RRS is almost able to keep up (abit lower redline) with my HSV maloo pulling 350kw and 700Nm.

of concern during the dyno run, the guy said my EGT were 750c at WOT!
reading a post by Tombie, he said there is a built in EGT that the gap tool can read.
I went and found it, but mine is static, it reads 212f and never changes.
I made a call to TRS, they said its part of the EGR system, which is "tuned out" as part of the tune. so I cant monitor EGT which is annoying.

Surely that 148kw number and the rest is at the wheels not the engine. A 2.7 in relatively new condition is just below those numbers at the engine.

correct, thats at the sheels. all dyno runs are at the wheels.

Well yes then they use a conversion factor to determine the power etc at the engine.

I would say that is about right then. My 2wd jag develops 300hp at the engine, and 200hp at the back wheels - so power at the wheels will normally be around 2/3 so your power at the back wheels is about right.

Welcome back, we thought you were dead, or had been given a lifetime ban!

what conversion factor would u use?
15% loss for manual?
20% loss for auto rwd?
25% loss for auto awd?

FYI.

A very old, original owner, report on my 2.7 D3.

The reason some "tune out" certain parameters during a tune is so they won't bring up a fault code.

Don't know about your particular vehicle but it is often done on other brands.
Not really ideal.

The guy who did the dyno should be able to advise.

thanks all for sharing, i did some googling looking for other results as it seems odd to get similar results to tdv6, and found this thread RRSPORT.CO.UK • View topic - TDV8 lacks torque in a strange way but no errors (https://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/post603691.html)

…but sounds like your torque converter may not be so lucky (good find by haydent).

Great to see you back Eevo.

hmm, doesnt feel like its slipping. not that i know what slipping feels like.

thanks

i didnt want to suggest there was something wrong with car specifically, more looking for dyno graphs and found both.

i guess a TC is almost always slipping by design (unless specifically locked up in highway conditions) so maybe it just to what degree, though im not sure how a TC could wear out to reduce performance...

I thought a slipping TC would throw up an input vs output shaft speed mismatch fault, if not that may be the parameter to monitor.

well if thats in the gap tool, (ill have a look next week) it could be something to compare with

A badly slipping TC should feel like a shudder.

hard to tell, i got scallopped tyres at the moment.

i beleive they tune out EGR as when left on it to leads carbon fouling/build up in the intake.

Yes some do,some don't, depending on tuner and vehicle brand and type.

Some let them operate at some times and not other times, keeping them closed more often than the OEM settings.

On our D4 2.7,they were tuned out,and blanked,no DPF.

EGR valves are closed during a DPF regen to ensure that all the late fuel injection goes to the catalytic converter rather than be fed back into the combustion chamber where it can cause problems.

something odd about that dyno.

my 350kw maloo which ive confirmed on 3 different dynos only made 315kw on this dyno

well 315/350 = 0.9
which is the change in diff gear ratio between stock and aftermarket, so its possibly the dyno is compensating for this
