Hi team

I need to charge the battery in our 2012 Puma. It’s been sitting for two months while having corrosion removed and being painted with occasional starts but despite a couple of long runs is not 100% charged. Was 87% after driving for around an hour, but this morning when the wife was leaving for work was only registering 65%, ambient temp was around zero.

I have a Projector 6 stage charger which works fine on our Td5 and Tdi but am concerned it may create issues with central locking and alarm etc on the Puma. We have always had problems when the battery has been disconnected particularly with the central locking and wish to avoid this, hence wanting to charge while in the vehicle.
Anyone experienced issues charging in the vehicle or am I worrying about nothing?

Cheers Simon

Hi Simon, can you run some temporary leads out from the battery and connect your charger to these leads.

you can then leave the Puma locked up while you recharge the battery.

Note, don't just charge the battery till the charge shows its fully charged.

Put the charge on at night and leave it on all night and you will probably have to do this for 5 to 7 nights, to get your battery truly fully charged and in good condition.

Yeah I can charge overnight with no security issues. But am more concerned with side effects as mentioned we get issues with central locking for example when the battery is disconnected.

Hi again Simon and there is no need to disconnect your battery while charging it, so you will not cause any issues.

Ours sits on its maintenance charger until driven.
Days / Weeks at a time.

Check your owner's manual re disconnect battery procedure. Something like windows up, key in, on for 10 seconds, key out, negative disconnect within 10 seconds.
I had the anti theft disconnected which solved such problems, but still have central locking.
