I went to Super Cheap on Friday and came across a bloke in the parking lot pouring oil into his Disco 4 hse. He told me it had just been fitted with a new engine. when I asked if he meant recondition, he replied no, new from the UK, fitted by the land rover indie in Gympie. I was of the opinion these were no longer available. I suggested the oil level sensor might be faulty and he said " no it started rattling which stopped when he topped it up with oil." It sounded like he had only just picked it up, as he said it had to go back to Gympie for its 1000k service. I hope everything is ok for him, he seemed a nice bloke.

An ominous sign!

Shouldn't that be 100 K service??? That's terrible. Not sure I'd be waiting the full 1000k, and I'm also not sure I'd be adding oil. If it blows up I would not want ANYTHING giving them a get out clause in the warranty. Stick it on a tow truck and send it back....

I hope it was just low on oil which started the hydraulic bucket tappets rattling.

There is no excuse for a new engine to be low on oil. If it was it’s ineptitude of the dealer or a sign the engine is ****ed. Both are bad signs.

I'm just saying he might get off lightly, as the car may not actually be leaking or burning oil, I agree he has some serious questions for the mechanic.

He did say there was a bit of an oil leak, which is probably a lot worse than he realizes. I meant 1000 kms.

I also wonder where you can get a new engine in the UK from? unless they are sourcing from Ali Express.

I know that back in the day I was just a muppet working in a general repair shop, mostly Datsun/Nissan or ‘Yota, but no vehicle left that place with an engine oil leak after any major work. And we were NOT a stealership. I think I would rather send my car to Germany and have Christian and Vera fix it.
No wonder the things get a bad rep. I hope for his sake it's just a simple oversight, but imagine the $$$ he's paid.

Good question. I thought they were all gone. Our German friends struggle to source them*, although parts seem to be available. I would want to know if it was mine, but I'd guess he'll flip it.
*, Yeah, they usually try to source them S/H.

On the UK forums they still seem to be able to source new crate engines.

And I wonder where these mystical new engines are being built?
The Ford engine factory stopped producing engines round 2016 or 19 ish and now I believe is a body pressing plant.
I call total horse ****, its people being told "yes its a new crate engine"
The last 3.0 lt I got "new" in a crate looked new but had a U.K engine recon company label in the crate.
