D3 Transmission surging - possible Vehicle speed sensor fault

Gday folks,

transmission in the old 207 D3 is surging around 50 to 60 km as most noticeable, not as noticeable as you get up to 80 and above.

I had it into a transmission place yesterday who does a lot of the D3 transmission and the codes indicate possibly a Vehicle speed sensor fault may be causing it.

P0501-00 Vehicle Speed Sensor A Range/performance Intermittent
P0500-00 Vehicle Speed Sensor A Historic

The bit of research I have done indicates this could be located on the transmission under centre console and is not the wheel speed (ABS) sensors.

Anyone have any experience of this fault and how to access suspect sensor?

it was reconditioned end of last year however no idea if they did anything to a VSS or not.

so the VSS is part of the valve body inside the box??

Yes on the mechatronic unit, i'm not sure if your codes specifically relate to the transmission speed sensor i just know there is one on the valve body.

Codes relate to "Vehicle Speed sensor" not sure if that is the one you refer to or not.

They did advise my battery was failed under load test and that low battery voltage can cause these sort of error codes. I'm ordering a new 1100CCA battery and will see if that helps or not.

Were those faults from the gearbox or from the ABS module? If an ABS speed sensor fault occurs then the specific wheel will be idenitified whereas a speed sensor fault from the gearbox won't identify a particular wheel.

I'd be checking the mechatronic plug for oil and if its seated correctly, next would be dropping the pan and see if it has any swarf on it.
