View Full Version : Protecting pets in D4 while parked

I regularly carry my 2 dogs in my D4, while I leave the windows partially down, on a number of occasions for short visits in particularly to the B hardware store it seems I have been reported to Police or NRMA. Not because the dogs are overheating but because one of the dogs has a barking habit, which people presume the dogs are stressed.

Is there a way I can leave the D4 running with A/C on but still lock the doors?

Not sure that's even legal. I don't think you can leave a car running unattended. I think you literally have to be standing right next to it "in control". But to answer your question, no, you can't lock it while it's running.

I was hoping there was an electronic work around for the ignition/locking function.

In regard to legal, many makes have a turbo cool-down function that keeps the engine running with doors locked.

True, but it's for a maximum of three minutes and approved in ADRs. As for a work around, I can't see how as you'd need to program the function into the one or more computers. It's not an option in the CCF.
You're doing as much as you can as the D4 allows the car to be locked with all windows 2" or so open.
It would appear that one of your dogs has an anxiety issue. Is there a way that can be addressed?

I often have them 100mm or so open and park in shade when available.

As for the the dog, a rescue, was on euthanasia list because of behaviour, much better, friendly but still has barking issue despite my best ongoing efforts.

Won't it run, if you wind the windows down and get out then lock it by reaching in and locking the door via the door push button in the car and then take the key fob out the car? Similar to how people leave the key at home and drive off, due to it being key less entry.

Take the dog with you into the B hardware store. They allow it and many people do

I think the dogs would be happy enough if you tied them up near the sausage sizzle.

They're not sausage dogs, Billy. [wink11]

A pug is just a squashed sausage. :wasntme: You could call them a burger dog but they'd beat you up.

I thought a pug was a dog with no brakes.

I met them once and they were nice to me so I'll stop being mean now and try to solve their problem.

They live in houses with polished floors.

I thought if you kicked a pug the right way it turned into an ugg boot.
