Mate has just bought a 2009 D3 2.7ltr,auto, 200000 odd k's, one owner.
Its got in the manual that came with the car the gearbox oil is Shell ATF M1375.4.
Is that the oil that everyone uses. I thought it was ZF Lifeguard 6 that's supposed to be the oil for it.
Happy to be corrected.
Thanks

The Penrite web sites cross references both Shell 1375.4 and Lifeguard 6 to Penrite BVM.
So I would assume the the Shell 1375.4 is the same spec as Lifeguard 6.
It possible that it is the same, one of the oil companies must make it for ZF.

No one knows the spec of LG oil only close guess and for a change every 80k kms is $300 of oil worth skipping?

Penrite BMV is perfectly fine, lots of people use it without issue. Shell make LG6 and most likely the other ZF badged AT fluids.

When I first read the headline, I thought someone wanted to put diesel in a gearbox. [bigrolf]

Shell ATF M1375.4 is Lifeguard 6.

However I have switched to the Penrite a couple of years back and no troubles as yet - covered all up 250,000km no gearbox issues.

The Ford dealer used Valvoline Maxlife in my Everest 6speed auto which is a clone of the ZF 6 speed.
The Valvoline site recommend Maxlife for a D3.
I have read elsewhere that the Valvoline Maxlife is the best ATF at the moment. It complies with Mercon LV which is the ford spec.
My car certainly shifts beautifully with absolutely no vibes etc.
