Hi legends!
Ok I'm going to fit a ZF4HP22 into my 77 2 door RRC which currently has LT95 gearbox.
Now - the Lokar shifter Les Richmond fitted to their 2 door restomod "Avalanche" looks the business. But is not available for a ZF. Now it is available with either cable or linkages.
Question is - what difficulties and which option MIGHT suit using a Lokar shifter on a ZF?
Thanks!

wouldn't it be easier just to bolt the factory unit in (you will need the center console insert too :) ).

Cable would be easier i think, then you only need to change the arm to the right length to make it shift correctly.
But i'm with DC and would just go the cheaper and easier route of an RRC/D1 shifter and console.

Me? easy and cheap??I dislike the later consoles as FYI and it would look wrong in my car.
I've reached out to Lokar lets see what they come back with.
I think it could be a very tidy - and cost effective solution
I've also found that Dakota Digital make a universal shift selector indicator that ties into my instrument cluster. So gear selector is in cluster. US$150 which is a good price for that. Add US400 for a shifter - thats not outrageous I think. Thats for a floor mount cable operated 4 speed auto shifter. No boot or indicator but IF my plan works I shouldn't need them.

Hi Meccles,

The Lokar shifters seem to be for the six speeds.

I have a 4HP22, (D1) and a 6HP26 (Ford Territory) and their shifters sitting on my shed floor at the moment.

The 4HP22 only has a bowden cable and has 7 positions P,N,R,D,3,2,1
The 6HP26 has bowden cable with 4 positions P,N,R,D plus a set of electrical connections for the sport and manual shift modes.

If you need any cable travel measurements, photos or any other info let me know.

Tony

Thanks Tony!
Lokar have been in touch they do shifters for all GM 4 speed trans and all have 7 position slots.
The Fords are all 6 position.
So thats good!
Will wait for New Year then do a bit more digging currently busy with end of year stuff.
