G'day good Discovery people,
I am looking to purchase a Discovery 4 in the near future and was wondering if there is much of a "real world" difference between the TDV6 and the SDV6 motors? I realise that on paper there are differences but was wondering how noticeable they were.
The vehicle I purchase will do some work commuting ( a 70km round trip on country highway). Some occasional longer trips, and very occasionally tow a larger box trailer. Off road use would be rare but maybe some rough access to a favourite camping site.
There appear to be some nice looking vehicles that fall into my km and price range budget that have either of the two motors, so I would really appreciate some user knowledge.
Thanks in advance,
Marty.

My personel opinion, the 2.7L TDV6 would be my choice.

I’ll try and keep it simple. Depending on what year you’re looking at, for a D4,
TDV6 can refer to a 2.7L engine or a 3L engine with the high power tune.
In later years (around 2011) the 2.7L was dropped and TDV6 and SDV6 referred to the 3L engine with low/high power tunes respectively.

You can easily have someone tune a 3L TDV6 to SDV6 spec as there’s no mechanical difference if you so desire.

Note the 2.7L engines were single turbo compare to the 3L twin turbo. The 2.7L are regarded as the reliable engines with few issues compared to the 3L variety.

That is the answer for the OP.

Also there are some good tunes around for the 2.7 if you are that way inclined,we had one on ours.

If driven back to back, many say unless you want to drive it like you stole it,or tow a block of flats, the 2.7 is quite adequate, which is my opinion as well.

Thanks for all the responses. I now realise I should have included a bit more info. I am hoping to narrow my choice to a 2015 or 2016 model. That will rule the 2.7 out. These years seem to have closer to the km limit I'm roughly setting.

Well then you have the info you need. Join me in the crank lottery of the 3L engines. Also put money aside for intake manifold replacements at some point. Enjoy.
