I've just taken the roof cap off my Dormobile and need to remove several layers of paint.

I've read that you need to stay away from methylene chloride based strippers but any other suggestions welcome.....

I would have thought that a hydroxide/caustic based stripper would work fine on any plastic or ferrous steel ... as long is there is no aluminium mixed in there.

Is the roof epoxy resin fibreglass or polyester resin fibreglass?

In the US, the EPA has banned methylene chloride based strippers. Not sure how relevant that is here. But they will etch and or soften GRP.

Able EcoStrip might be ok. I think the boat mobs use it or similar.

How do you tell? Serious question, my OKA has a fibreglass pop top. I guess I'd just play it safe.

I think mechanical sanding is the safest bet.how much would a replacement Dormobile roof be, or are they even available?

Dormobile started up again some years ago. Dormobile The Original Campervan converter (https://dormobile.co.uk/)
They are converting Defenders, only problem is you can't get the seats folding down to make a bed. Probably all sorts of hoops to jump through to get them tested nowadays.
