Hi,
Has anyone had any experiences in converting a Landrover Chassis, tray or Wagon to a Trailer.
I currently have a solid box trailer which I need to convert, to longer draw bar, brakes etc.
Alternatively I was considering picking up an old hag and converting it.
Any knowledge, complications etc with converting a 110, 109, 90 etc to a trailer.
Cheers for any feedback.

This is the pic Phil's refering to:

I saw somthing similar at the expo this year, and the owners of that setup cut off a little more of the chassis at the front, and made a tubular drawbar to the towhitch. The spare space in between the tub and start of the drawbar was used for a storage bin - that balanced the whole thing.

We had a similar thing on my uncles farm, back of a 109 Series something stripped from the rear tub forwards and cut just in front of the firewall. The chassis rails were notched in front of the gearbox cross memeber from the inside leaving only the outside edges intact, then folded to meet at the front, rewelded and a tow ring fitted...

LANDY ANDY - Thanks.
BlkKnight.aus, Yes this is similar to what I was thinking. It's more the registering of the mods as a trailer, what has to go and has to be replaced ie axles, diff housing etc.
It may be easier to work with my existing off=road trailer, however, the idea of having another landy behind me, helping to keep 70% of them still on the road (one way or another) appeals to me. Particuarly the trailer tracking to my 110.

go to your local RTA (or equivilent) and look up the rules for a self built trailer... From memory in most states if its less than a 750kg GM trailer you only need to haul it in for a prefuntionary inspection to make sure the lights work and the thing basically conforms to the construction guides and is not inherently dangerous to pedestrians if you hit em with it.
Im pretty sure the regs for QLD NT and WA are available online dont ask me for a link, I cant rememeber, but I think it would be a safe bet that if the laid back states have got it sorted the anally retentive ones should have it to.

I built one many years ago. I used a LWB 109, cut the chassis just in front of the tub and welded ona 4" box section steel A frame. I retained the Land rear diff set up with brakes etc. I removed the axles to allow the trailer to be easily handled. I never got to attaching the brakes, the trailer had a bearing collapse on it one day and the wheel fell off :( . I was enroute from Melbourne to Darwin and didn't have time to repair it. I sold (read gave) it to a local wrecker.
It was a very well balanced trailer and very usable. I had considered fitting LWB sides and a SWB roof to it (with about a 1' extension) and making it into a camper. It took a day to make.
I made it from an accident damaged Land Rover, I haven't got the heart to kill a Land Rover to make a trailer though.

As Ive had absolutely no interest in the giving away of whats left of bug 2.0 Ive just decided that bugger it its going to become a trailer... Its not worth repairing the front end to restore it now that Ive pulled the diesel out and I'll get some spare parts for kermit in the process.
If you like I'll start a thread on the process complete with pics once I work out how to post em

How good is this (minus the Rover car wheels and rubber).
I saw it today at All British Day Brisbane.
Belongs to the guy from KC Spares at Maleny.
If you ever need ANYTHING Lucas ( ), or electrical that came out of England for a vehicle - they'll have it. Rare stuff too...
Anyway here's the trailer
Will be posting a report with pics a bit later....
