Defender reliability not to badin comparison!

Hi.

Defender reliability is not to bad overall compared to other makes released over the last few years.reading other forums their has been plenty of issueswith gearbox,motors, and suspensions. Its just good marketing and back up that keeps some of these other things alive!.

Could not agree more sumo. After 110 thousand km's the fender had it's first breakdown recently with a busted fuel pump. After breaking fuel lines twice replacing it sat at the dealers for five weeks in total.

You would not believe how many people during that time banged on about that's why they would never have a landrover.

One fuel pump in five years, give me a car like that any day.

In comparison I have had in recent years a subaru foster and holden ute for private use for work. In the ute's first month the ignition barrel broke twice. Forester buggered the clutch in 6 months.

Difference was they either came out imediately and fixed in the driveway or they picked up, left the dealer car and returned within a day.

Landrover have a lot to learn.

I agree Land Rover need to lift their game as far as Defenders are concerned but I have to say in the last 4 or 5 days I reckon I have seen more Defenders on the road than I have seen in years!

Today I saw 3 90 inch models and 2 110's! More shorties than LWB?? I must be dreaming.:D

They may not have quite shaken off their bad reputation with everyone but it appears that more people are choosing a Defender lately.

I saw 2 X 90 Extremes yesterday when leaving Brisvegas for home. I dark "Purple"?, and 1 Dark Green. Still in shock.

Ive finally worked out why landrover after market service and support is so bad...


They break down so rarely that the suppliers havent yet had enough experience in the requirements of after market repair to be able to adequately cater to the need.

I saw an pimped up black 90" in perth complete with chrome wheels..and yes it was a puff daddy look-a-like driving it..felt like pulling up and slapping him upside da head and saying "Ni**er, yo dumb ass mofo, yall should be ridin in a range rover, yo fuked up yo mofo choice of vehicles dawg":D:D:D looked so highly polished and all black bits were chromed even the flares??.

A licen-sense is whats needed before you are allowed to buy a Defender you should pass a special test:cool:before you are allowed to purchase.. I felt sorry for the poor 90" never to see a drop of mud or an aggressive incline on its 18" rims complee with low profile tyres....I wish I had a camera that day:mad:

Thats right mate! when everyone realises this ,the country will be overrun with landy defenders!. ":eek: Imagine that":D :D :D :D :D .

To qualify why it took 5 weeks for a fuel pump to be replaced under extended manufcturers warrenty.

Fuel pump dies on a friday. I ring local landrover dealer, which is part of a mitsubishi dealership and say i'm sending the car by monday (180km tow job) do they have the replacement pump. Yep all no worries and I confirm it's under warrenty.

Get it thier by monday, on friday they finally get around to lookig at it, because ould you believe the apprentice has been at Tafe then called a sickie!!!. I drive across. Get thier and am told they have had to cut a ful line to remove the long range tank and have new line on order. I ask for a replacement car and get one to drive home.

A week later part arrives and they are fitting. Tell me to drive across to collect. I get there and they break the news that 'the bloody apprentice broke more fuel lines trying to fit and will have to source new parts'. Why the hell did they leave it to an apprentice?

When I ring them a few days later they say they have ordered from UK and wll be a couple of weeks. I ring suppliers in Perth who tell me they can get the part within a few days.I tell this to the dealer manager who argues that they have to source from Landrover direct and therefore must order from the uk.

Absolute joke. Took three weeks for the part to arrive. I finally got my car back a few days ago. My fuel pump busted on Augus 3rd. To make matters worse I can now smell deisel after I filled my tank yeterday, this has never happened before.

No apology, nothing. They didn't even clean or vacuum the car. When I winged that I had three quaters of a tank of fuel (90L an now none cause they drained the tank they relented and let me fill the tank.

A joke. But what can you do. Write to Landrover and tell them thier rural dealership netwrk is crap.
