Once again The Land Rover Experience never ceases to amaze.

At about 3pm we had a call go out over the radio that a Guy had crashed his Quad Bike and dislocated his shoulder.
Without any hesitation nor complaints the whole convoy stopped, turned around, re crossed a lagoon to lend a helping hand, to a perfect stranger.
The had guy managed to re-locate his shoulder with a little help from a Rangie B pillar (Thanks Chris) before most had arrived.
After he was fixed up.
We turned our attention to recovering his Quad bike. Which had managed to find its way down a narrow goat track the otherside of a deceivingly high sand dune. Those that were smart enough to drive up or were fit enough to run up started the process (thanks for those who offered the lift to the fat bloke carring the bag full of recovery gear:p ) (BLOODY BIG HILL!!!! ). Without much fuss the bike was returned to its rightful owner. Who was offered the Comfort of a ride in a Land Rover back to Civilisation and having one of our group ride the bike back for him. Didn't take him long to accept our offer ( Must have been the pain).

Whislt most where helping to recover the quad (or still walking that Friggin hill) The quad rider asked a few of the girls what club we where from, their reply was that we weren't from a club, yet a online forum named AULRO.
He later said to Mrs's Yabbie that he was amazed how many cars/people responded to help him and how in all his time riding he had never seen such a response. He then told her that he may just get himself a landrover and join. Tuff way to convert the masses, but 1 more still 1 more.

Job well done guys and girls.

Just another prime example of just how sociable the people from AULRO are or perhaps it is just a Land rover thing.

Either way I like it.

P.S. I've still got dibbs on the glove:twisted:

When we heard that he'd popped his own shoulder back in using the Rangie a collective ooohh aaaaargh was heard thoughout my car.

I know it is best to do such a task straight away, but the thought of doing it to oneself without any medication.

Not for me

As for the glove, the rider apparently threw his glove after dislocating his shoulder (fair enough I would imagine). Yabbie found his glove in the bushes.

What Yabbie was doing by himself, in the bushes, I don't want to know. Also why on earth he'd want just one solitary glove?

( callous prevention maybe?):D

Only having been on this forum a short time, one of the many things that impresses me is how members help out. Impressive, all who were there. Well done.

Well having got back from the mud just now... i will check for pics, not sure what we took up there yesterday i have around 300 shots from the whole weekend to sort out!!!

Anyway, that wasnt the last good act for the day, when we set up camp Byron found another person in need, wandering through the forest in the dark late at night.. There car had stalled in water nearby and they had flattened the battery trying to start it. They were walking back to there camp to try and get a battery out of there other car. Luckily we had my brothers jump start pack handy and Wortho took him and the jump start pack back down a nasty little track to recover the vehicle.

And then again today, with the mass of broken vehicles, all those mechanically inclined were under the dead vehicles helping out trying to get everyone mobile again - No complaints just lending there skills for others benefit. Great to see!!

It seems the AULRO crowd is full of friendly helpful people - a great group to be a part of.

Mick.

Nope, we had a few injuries today.

Chris blew his diff, had gears sticking out of the diff housing.. looks pretty cool, lucky we have a few spares between us.

Morgan had various issues after his rangie had an alergic reaction to the muddy water - he didnt even make it out of camp all day.

Defenderzook snapped his rear tailshaft and put a near 90 degree bend in his passenger side rear trailing arm.

Pauls front bar got pretty bent not to mention his start motor issues

Bryons gearbox kept overheating

Disco Daves front bar took a beating on several occasions as well..

But we had fun :)

Looking forward to the trip report,

:) I was the lucky one that got to ride the quad back to his car,. it was one sweet ride on the sand,.. allthough a bit too loud for my taste,.. Stick a muffler on it from a Defender, and a swag rack, paint it Green, and I could be very happy on that thing,

spent my fair share of time up there on a couple of different trikes over the last 25yrs. had some pretty nasty accidents, from somersaulting backwards down a narrow track to end up with the trike on top of me leaking petrol to riding to the top of a dune in an area i wasn't familiar with and have the lip of the dune collapse, taking me and the trike right to the bottom into a sand-mining operation. luckily no broken bones but my left ankle still clicks.
good to see you guys came to the rescue. a year or two a go i was up there on my first day out after fixing the front brakes. they jammed on on the soft sand just before you climb onto the dunes. my mate, who was carrying the tools had shot off ahead without knowing i was stuck. i struggled to drag the thing off the track as far as i could but not totally. i was trying to borrow a spanner off a passing 4wd, but out of the 25 cars i asked, only 1 had a spanner and it was a 3"shifter of dubious quality. most of them yelled abuse at me for blocking the track, not even asking if i needed help. needless to say, most of these were toyotas and nissans with fat bald idiots sporting goaties with a ciggie hanging out of their mouths....no wonder so many people hate 4wders if thats the image we portray.
thank god for landrover drivers.
keep up the good work
*clean up stockton day coming up*

what dunes in the forest ?

barney
19th September 2006, 09:28 AM
for those foreigners, stockton comprises a strip of pretty much, bare sand dunes, about 1-2km wide running up the beach. inland from that, the dunes still exist but are heavly wooded, similar to fraser island but not as nice . some patches of this area open up into bare sand dunes and usually end up as isolated playgrounds for quads etc as some of the access tracks are too tight for a 4wd. this is where i came to grief

cal415

what dunes in the forest ?

Nearly!!

There is some pretty thick scrub on the edge of the beach,, but the bush stuff was done about 15km away in the wallaroo state forest.

Both my hands have 4 fingers and one thumb.

And yours?

Same, the reason I ask is the one good hand comment after 6 broken fingers. I wasn't sure where that was coming from... or heading!:o :D
