Funny thing happened whilst raising the rear of Fender.
I used the HiLift to raise th RRHS and the removed wheel, used Ford BA jack borrowed from the neighbours as my bottle jack was under the chassis as a safe guard, the BA is a scissor type brand new first time it was used , put under the diff and raised slightly to take the weight off the shock and removed top nut and pulled shock off.lowered said BA jack and removed standard spring..lowered a bit more and insert new Yellow King spring raised jack to get the top shock mount back on the newly cleaned and de-rusted mount, winding ,winding,winding:confused::confused::confused: its not going anywhere, have a looksy and the scissor jack is now a figure "8" jack doh!....
Down shed to drag the big ass trolley jack up to finish the job.
I used the scissor as it can get quite low compared to a bottle jack thus making removal easier.. unfortunately I didn't expect the Chinese would take our premium WA Iron ore and turn it into a **** metal jack:mad:.. Mike my neighbour (whos is on his way to the LR fraternity when his wife demanded a Discovery as their new family car as my wife explained she fills up once a month opposed to her once a week with similar distances involved:D:D )laughed as well so now I have to go to a Ford stealer out of common courtesy and buy a new Jack...funny as all **** though but I wouldn't trust it raising a whole car when It can't compress 1 spring...
I'm impressed with the end result of the lift though.....;)

take the jack back to ford steeler (in / with mates car) and tell them you were jacking up the falcooon and jack bent
demand a new jack for free, the jack should be a lot better than that
it should be able to lift the falcooon + a have large safety margin
I think maybe ford need to look at their jack design

I'd ask for a new jack under warranty.

Curiously, did ya check the SWL. All jacks'd have one. Perhaps falcons're are lighter than we expected?! I doubt it though, and often you'll find their scissor jacks are designed to lift per wheel on those larger sedans. You know the way, just under the sill at either end. Read the manual before ya waltz in there and demand a replacement under warranty. They might just ask where you were jacking. Naturally you want to be able to point at the right spot.

Nice logic Relay--:D

in that case shouldnt the jack have a "per wheel" warning?

Thats a surprise as normally its the thread that goes on them. I have killed quite a few over the years.

Not just a pretty face? I suppose the theory is, that you read the manual before utilising the jack, or just be lazy and call the NRMA as I imagine many BA drivers might.

And George130 is undoubtedly right. I carried 2 scissor jacks in my old sedan (Ford Meteor) for the exact reason that the thread on one did not look fabulous. So saying, some two poster hoist nuts I've seen show about as much promise!

Our AU has a scissor which is less 'structural'
than the one that's in the X1/9.

AU Falc 1600 kgs
X1/9 900 kgs
BA Falc is about 1700kgs i seem to recall.....porky.
Almost as much as my Disco 1!

Ford were made a big noise about the XD weighing less than 1400......

Middle age spread, wonder what the new Commodore weighs?

Cheers, GQ

Interesting, the spec sheet is here: http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/techdata'modelid=4000 and there is no mention of weight so it must be a heavy bastard !

I know in the Defender I carry a high lift jack and a bottle jack. But with the cars I've owned over the years, I've always tossed away the standard jack and had a bottle jack in there instead. Can't say that I've ever trusted the scissor jacks to be truthful.

And for $30 it's worth the peace of mind in my opinion.

Ayup, the details on weight are yet to be released to the public. There's a holden dealer opp where I work, and the boys over there were amused at the fact that the VE weighed significantly more and there was little done in the engine to accommodate. I can only imagine what they meant by significantly.

yes the new ve holden is a fair bit heavier and the engine is relatively still the same. However, the ls# engines are quite detuned for Australia and a quick trip to a well known tuner will unleash quite a large amount of extra ponies, much better auto shifts and a range of other "fun" modifications. An extra 20-30rwkw is not out of the question.
