Well I have nearly got my Home theatre finished..yay says SWMBO, I have installed the projector (ceiling mount) and the motorised 3m screen and the 7.1 speakers... it used to be a double garage under the main roof 5.5m x 6m so I bricked it in, raised the ceiling and plastered the walls, fitted double door entry, installed 6 down lights and all the speaker wiring with plate mounted banana plug fittings all chased into the walls, inbuilt DVD library behind the screen and all I have left before the grand final is paint and carpet, But I have been peering out the lounge window at the fender thinking I should be tinkering with her instead hence the title and thank god its raining..
Total cost of this addon is$450 in building materials a lot was aquired through work from left overs 1000 bricks, 10 bags of cement etc
sound and projection gear is around the $10k mark and I installed it all myself and taught the projectors remote to operate everything , even the screen.
Now future installs, small beer fridge in the room, and some of those lazy reclining hometheatre seats.. then I'm set to watch the grand final in style.
next building addon is the new garage on the other side of the house brick and tile 7mx 11.5m including workshop area 3.3m high ceiling with storage over reinforce joists, 2 large "I" beams running the length as to use as a indoors crane with a chain block and tackle for engine removal, at the back of the garage is a 4mx4m workshop area which will have benchs etc.. also small door acces to cellar/store under main house also a toilet and shower as not to mess up inside the house..doh...
now suggestions on what at the building stage you guys wished you had added?
oh will add pics once painting is done

Flamin' heck.
And I'm happy with a 34 cm colour TV for the amount of TV I watch (I rarely ever hire a video). :D

Same here - and never hire videos because its too far to town to return them.
I do have a few videos/dvds though, but wouldn't watch one more than about once a month.

Understand the dilemma completely!!!!
There is no easy way out, but better to finish one project completely first rather than have two semi-finished that will irritate you to death. But imagine how you can spoil the 'fender once you have the building finished... :p
Good luck!

Dawg,
sounds like you have way too much money and time on your hands. I am having a hard time convincing my missus to let me get a Plasma at only $3k.
Something you can relate too a friend was hit on his R1 in Perth the other day waiting at a set of lights on a freeway access ramp, when hit hard from behind. Broken pelvis (femur joint), broken femur head, broken lower femur, knee broken in 3 places, broken tibula and broken elbow. Another few pins to add to his cololection of speedway injuries.

Why would you have a set of lights on a freeway access ramp? That's asking for accidents to occur.
They put those metering lights on an access ramp to the M4 here in Sydney but I don't think I ever saw them used. They have since been removed.

You need to get a live satellite feed from a camera on your Defender to the home theatre. Then your wife can sit back and enjoy virtual 4WDing, she won't feel left out when you go bush, and she won't have to put up with the dirt.
If your mates are going on a trip that you can't attend, lend them the Defender Cam and sit back at home & enjoy.
If Satellite is too expensive, you may be able to route the signal through a Digital phone - provided there's reception at the 4WD location.
Also big enough double doors to drive the Defender in, gives the whole thing a safari feel when you're watching nature documentaries from the drivers seat.
I could go on ..... but I've said enough already.

The lights work quite well on the Eastern Fwy in Melb. Vehicles enter the Fwy with enough of a space between them that they can merge into the traffic. Otherwise they were bunching up at the merge point and coming to a dangerous standstill. Now they merge at a faster speed.
I wasn't sure about them when they were first introduced, but they seem to work really well.
Let's not hijack this discussion.

Its all I can afford:D:D:D:D:D
I actually have a bid on an ex coke drink dispenser..its illegal to stock beer in them but I am not one for rules;)
Craig I hope your mate is ok and I do feel his pain..its not just the accident it is the months and months of rehab thats the bummer even when you get the big payout it really doesn't compensate for the true pain and suffering:(
Vlad as for virtual stuff I was watching the channel seven HD test program and it involved a down hill eye view of a skier and it was so realistic I involuntary started swaying on the turns:D:D
As for the $$$ its an investment as by building an elaborate home theatre its probably added 60-70k to the property value..thats how you get it past SWMBO..:D:D;)

Dawg,
James Bond was male chauvanist pig and he got all the women.
Besides women can't talk look how they act in a group, disgraceful, always talking of a blokes genital area like they were tropheys and men should be used abused and thrown to the next pack of shlong hungry sharks.
The make me feel like a piece of meat.
And I love it
P.S I like it when blondes look into mirror balls for hours on end

Only to the right buyer. It's like a swimming pool - I've looked at houses to buy and rejected them out of hand because they've had a pool. Ditto with people who talk about the money they've put into the kitchen. Most I've seen are bloody ugly woodgrain things so the new kitchen would need to be ripped out and replaced.
For me, a garage converted to a home theatre would need to be ripped out and converted back to something useful, i.e., a garage. :)

Well, in a lot of ways I'm a chauvinist, too (ask my family!), but I'm glad I married a smart one. She may not have a uni degree but, by gum, she's smart. I'm the lucky one.
I'd hate to be married to a woman who wasn't intelligent. Maybe that's why we've been married for nearly 37 years (apart from the fact that I still think she's beautiful).

You may just have to live in your home theatre if she ever reads this!

Ron , you don't need to watch tv you'd be quite happy listening to the Am wireless..:D by the fireplace;)Ron in this current climate of buyers the In thing is a hometheatre I should know as I make my living building New homes and their list of must haves are a home theatre, powder room, activity room and these are all requested by popular demand . So I increased my living area of my home to 372sqm and in the same time modernised it. But your point is valid I couldn't see this place being of interest to an old couple as it is too big and modernised but different strokes to different folks.. as for the comments on my wifes intelligence it was said in humor, tongue in cheek ..she works as a paramedic nurse at the local hospital ER.., I'm the dumb one in my family I have a degree in architecture but work happily as a builder..gofigure?

My stereo wasn't even connected up at home until last year when we had our son home after his bike accident - that means the stereo had sat gathering dust in the lounge room since 1993 when we moved back to Australia. Fireplace? My gawd, no. I had one in our house on Norfolk Island and I had it ripped out.
