There was an article in the paper this week-end saying that the Kazakstani government was having talks with the US about trying to improve public perception of the country in light of the Borat movie release. They were proposing an education program in schools.

I had a mate who went to the deep south of America and was asked by a group of blokes where he came from. He said he was from England.
Where upon they all looked at him and one asked what langauge do you speak there, because you must learn english at school as you can speak it very well
He thought they were taking the **** but then found out they were serious. He told them we speak english , the hint is in the fact i am from England.
Theri response was wow well fancy that they speak the same language as we do

You're more open-minded than me, then Vlad. I'm surprised they recognised it as the same language.

I had a group in the South ask me where I was from in the States, corrrse I suuuure had a fun knee acccceeent.
The yanks are so insular they don't even know about their country - they wouldn't where the hell Borat is from (which is probably why he gets so many 'good' interviews and subjects.)

Vlad, and you live in the best part of Brisbane, you know where I mean, it's a long way west of you. You're almost right about Alstonville, but we've no more cows, just endless miles of macadamias and avocados and now, yuppies....
we could do with a Borat 'round here, that'd upset the macadamia cart.

Kazakstan has protested the way it has been portrayed. This is his response:

I kid you not, 1991 I was standing in Trafalgar Square dodging the pigeon $hit when this large loud American women (why are they always large and loud?) asked me directions. When I said I was a tourist from Australia, her reply with much amazement was wow do they speak American there as well.
And my sister recently returned from living in the states for 5 years told of how the schools wanted to get in a speech therapists for her kids. Something to do with the letter R when used in the colour purple. We say Purple they say Purrrrple. When the sister was having the meeting with the school and the therapists she was asked what is the 1st language of Australians. Needless to say her opinion of the American education system went way down.
