Why would Ford sell the LR brand if it's the only one making money in the PAG group? I can understand if it's throw in as a sweetner for the group but on it's own? They've just spent millions on the development of the D3/RR Sport and new Freelander. Maybe they need to redeem some of that lost revenue!

" .. a near-fanatical customer base and loyalty.." They got that part right! ;)

First zee Germans, then the yanks, then the yank puff pastries

So if Land Rover is owned and run from the city of manly love, sorry brotherly love

(perhaps they heard Defenders were excellent at mud plugging and the have the wrong idea)

But what changes would the city of macho, macho men make to our beloved marque

Renaming of models perhaps from Defender to Bender?

Interior styling that doesn't clash or look tooo macho

New colour Range including Beige, Purple, Black and Pink

I couldn't imagine the men off that queer eye show driving a Defender (allthough a bunch of pansies could use a hose out vehicle, for many different reasons) eeewwww

So what they made a bid.
Ford is not selling Land Rover. It would be the last Brand they own that they would sell other than the Ford brand itself.

Ford own two other brands and they are looking to defiantly off load one and may be both.

dobbo....a hot pink 'fender, eh? hmmmmmmmmm
the village people would fit into a 130 no worries (and the rear could carry all the costumes)....

eventually, sense will prevail at Ford, the boys have $24b in the bank and don't want to lose it....Fords problems are an easy fix, they just have to realise it and stop the corporate mumbo jumbo (been there).....

I dunno... these Citronella guys might be fanaticals just like us, rather than a mega-company such as ford....

LR will survive one-way-or-another... there are too many soccer-mom-frappachinco-yuppies out there paying big bucks for rangies and discos

Who knows, I just hope that LR, whoever owns it, and after they make profits on "prestige" vehicles has enough pocket money left over to still make a defender in years to come.

I caught a segment of Dr Phil the other day as I walked past my wife. My eye was immediately caught by the fact he was getting into a new Rangie.

My wife reckons I'm weird in that I can spot a Rangie from seeing a very small part of the car. When the camera drew back - it was all revealed. A nice L322.

Ford are buying Rover off BMW:

http://au.biz.yahoo.com/060918/33/w7ef.html

"Ford is going to exercise its right on the Rover licence, notably to protect the image of its British subsidiary Land Rover,"

So that doesn't sound as though they are in a hurry to unload Land Rover.

The D1 saved your bacon.
If it had of flopped,, say goodbye to LR.

And now The D3 will save LR again.

Maybe the NEW Defender might sell enough to make its existence financially viable,,

but then theres a chance some latte swilling yuppy might buy one---

I knew one of them, she hated it for about a week, then gave it back to hubby and got a Disco SE7. He sold it (the 'fender), after six months and got a Volvo sedan, latte drinkers.............nicest brand new, used 'fender ever seen, never left the north shore of Sydney. (smelt of baby puke tho')......

...but they realised they'd already bought a lemon:woot:
