Maybe we should get the guys from "Chaser's War on Everything" to have a crackdown? You know where the guy dresses up like a traffic warden and gives people fines for things like having stupid ringtones on their mobile or giving their children silly names, etc.
I'm sure they'd be happy to set up a 'random wave test' checkpoint and fine people for failing to wave at another Land Rover driver.

DAMN, i barely ever get a wave, most of the local guys in disco's dont seem to know about it and just give the "Do i know you?" look, and the series and defender drivers dont seem to class the discos as landies i dont think so they dont wave either.... but occasionaly i get a wave...

I have been having to control myself from waving since I'm in a little camira. So at the moment I grin like an idiot at them and point them out if someone is with me.

I get them normally other deefer drivers will beat me to it when im being inattentive and since thats usually when SWMBO is in the car I get a dig in the ribs and a jybe bout not getting in first, what kind of rover nut am I.
Cant think of the last time I missed getting a return from the deefer crowd.
Cant think of the last time I got one started from a disco or rangie but almost always get em back

G'day All, I was out walking this morning very early (0630) and spied a Defender coming towards us , I waved at the driver he waved back, he was driving a Dark Blue with white roof 856-EVL Qld, maybe he is a forum member and had read this post:D anyway I generally get waves in return from only Land Rover as such no-one ever waves from RR Disco Freelander just might be that they think the product is not related in any way cheer Dennis:wasntme:

whenever i see another LR i wave, in 2 weeks i've passed stacks of LR's and only got ONE wave back... from a fender driver.
it's kinda sad... i get so excited (when i'm actually paying attention to what's going on around me! :D ;) ) but it's almost always a complete let down...
cheers,

I only wave to Rangies (the old ones).
They normally wave back.
Must be a new age modern thing not to wave:D

maybe its just on that side of the country, i get waves all the time from fellow fender drivers & i don't always initiate? the wave, having said that i can't remember ever having disco's or rangies wave at me; maybe its a case of each to their own, or maybe i'm not as attentive as i should be (more likely to be the case)

Don't give up the wave numpty, there's a lot of newbies out there that just haven't been educated in land rover ways.:spudnikwaving:
i remember my first wave, who the f#$% !!! was that i said as i drove out of the stealer's yard. a couple of days later im waving at anything that came past with the green oval.:imwithstupid: then i realised that RR owners just refuse to wave. but some of the disco owners are starting to.
so dont give up the wave, be persistant and hopefully one day you might get a wave from a RR owner.:D

Landy drivers are a bit toffee nosed - RR will only wave to RR but only if it looks like both cars have some offroad gear on them, Series Drivers wave to all other series drivers and to some defenders - defenders wave to all proper landys, discos are a bit like RR , wave only to offroad landies but only if the disco is an offroad vehicle - and no one waves to Freelanders - even when I wave to Landy drivers - I can see the expression on their faces which says - who is that poofy, poncy, latte drinking, driver waving at:o and I don't even drink latte and am not a gay bar loiterer.
I still wave anyway but no landy has ever waved back:(
Gazzz
Oh - PS and Freelanders don't wave to each other.

Have you guys sat on the side of a LR highway somewhere to study this? Should I be afraid? I'd wave to LRs...but likely chances are I'd hear curses out the window. But one day...

On the way to work yesterday I got a pleasant surprise....pulled onto the hwy right behind another defender. Got a huge wave as I sped up to go past. They were doing 80k which I find comfortable cruising speed in Gandalf as well but I was running late so wanted to hoof it a bit.
Next defender/County I saw I thought I'd try a different tack.....waved AND flashed lights but no response :(
Can't win em all but at least the one wave cheered me and restored faith

Not quite, I'll wave to a standard RR, but only if it's old.

Sounds like a Seinfeld episode to me!
I have one fella who used to wave, then only raise the index finger from the wheel...now not so much as a wink. I began giving him the finger. Now he waves both fists!

Maybe I just don't get so many waves because I am a woman. Maybe men don't expect women to wave. Lets face it, I get sa surprise if a woman waves back :)
Someone did tell you you have to be wearing flanno when you wave, didn't they? Otherwise you look like some demented socialite with poor eyesight who's flapping at the wrong car. :p

I dunno... from what my wife tells me she get **lots** of enthusiastic waves. People seem to go wild when they see a woman driving a defender around here :o LOL

I pass that many LR's everyday that I'd get RSI if I waved at all of them
Which makes me think...
Now they have the facial recognition software on airports, would it be possible to get it for a regular video camera, set up at the front of the vehicle, attached to a mechanical arm? Any time a Landie came in sight, would wave said arm. Would help my absent-mindedness and Yabbie's RSI.
Could also market other breed recognition modules and export the Landie community. Could perhaps have 2 arms - a regular one and a single-digit one set to Toymotor recognition mode...

When I am forced to drive the Fairlane instead of the Disco I still wave to all of the LR's that I pass !
Couple of RR's have waved back and have also recieved a few smiles in return but none of the other LR's have waved back ! Stuck up snobs, after all the blue oval is the next best after the Green, aint it ?
Cheers.

PS:
Cooked the V8i donk, so will be forced to drive the Ford for a few weeks
untill the thing is rebuilt. Only done a 150K too, bugger.

G'day Numpty & Numpty's Missus :)
My humble Appoligies if I have failed to wave back:( when I have been pedalling OLR-068, but I have probably been too busy watching Tojo-san drivers who have death wishes ;) particulary when joining the highway from Bribie Road:o but I feel a real @#$*&%^ when I wave at Landies while I am driving the aging Dunnydore Vacationer (the Irrid Blue one) out of habit while driving the Landy, as I am often in Caboolture/Moronfield :D doing shopping or on the way to Dog Training:cool: The Ambo that Numpty waved at was probably OLR-067 heading from Scarborough to the S/Coast;)
