From the Rangie list, it seems there are moves afoot in the UK to pull Top Gear off TV:
See http://www.petitiononline.com/tg100/petition.html (http://www.petitiononline.com/tg100/petition.html)
Clarkson's article is at http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006440317,00.html (http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006440317,00.html)

No they don't have to axe it.
The BBC has formulated a cunning plan
Jeremy waving a red flag will walk ahead of all the vehicles whilst they are being driven.

Yeah right! Like the BBC would really consider axing one of it's most successful programs. The revenue to BBC through worldwide sydication and DVD sales must be immense. It is, after all, the biggest car show in the world.
If there were to be any fallout from Richard Hammond's accident, it would be in the form of moderation, not cancellation. Get real.

Having worked in television for 32 years, there's something one never does, as a programmer (not me):
1). never dump your top rating shows
2). never dump your top rating shows which sell at a vast profit to the rest of the world
3). if it's cheap to make and rates well, run it
4). if it bleeds, it leads (a journo term) sorry Hamster but you'd agree
Top Gears 'appeal' will go thru the roof following Richard Hammonds recent 'adventures'.

Absolutely! And I would agree that it is possible the BBC is just stirring it's own pot with a bit of scaremongering.
In any case, channel 4 or ITV would buy it if it was dropped. The naysayers don't get it - it's not a serious show - it's a comedy for f**k's sake.

They dropped it a few years back.
However, it has come back bigger and stronger with the current crew.

That was when Jeremy Clarkson left in the late 90's and the ratings took a nosedive. That particular version of Top Gear is now called "Fifth Gear" and on another network. BBC kept the name and put the current, whole new "comedy" show together with Clarkson back at the helm.
They ain't gonna ditch it.

Great show been to the filming of two shows. and they are fantastic to whatch live. Was on the one where the aston raced them down to monte carlo and the one with the Holdern Minaro on the beach. If you watch them you can see me and the misses on them (wow my claim to fame)
But the whole thing is the funnest thing live i have ever seen in my life. They really take the ****. It takes all day to film and the three of them wonder around all day talking to everyone as if they are mates.
I have meet and talked for a long time each time to Richard Hamond. Twice at Top Gear and twice at Landy shows. He is a really nice bloke and all ways has time for anyone
Would be a real shame if they take it off the air

5th Gear is ok but more techy. Misses loves watching top gear but hates 5th gear. That is where they have won. Women are quite happy watching top gear, but not the others
Mind you Vicky Butler hendison is on 5th gear:D ;) :D huba huba
