Australia Takes World Basketball Championship
Australian national women's basketball team, the Opals, have beaten Russia to take the world championship title for the first time, and secure their place in the 2008 Olympics. The Australian side took the final 91-74.
Penny Taylor won the Most Valuable Player award, scoring 28 points for her national side. She beat out forward Lauren Jackson and Russian Maria Stepanova to take the offer. Australia played the entire world tournament undefeated.
Former World Champions the United States beat Brazil to take the bronze medal.

As for missing it, yeah well you didn't exactly hear the local papers bleating about it. Up here in Qld all they wanna talk about is Steve and the Broncos at the moment. *sigh*
