Dismissing the Rodeo dealer in here, trying poorly to convince us of some obsequious device of no heritage, after my D1 gets a park in the long shed...I'd probably have a...D3.

Then I'd fix the D1.

Considering other posts in our fora, it's curious that we are asked for a choice of just one...the shed is replete with interesting things, and most of us have interesting sheds...

Round here right now I'd have an electric golf buggy type device, that would easily replace the LR - for short hauls only - but you'd need to live here in a village to get it. I wouldn't take a cute ev into NorthSydney, which was my home for the past 40 years, too many goons in 4wds there....lol

I sold my 1997 Rodeo to buy a 1994 Discovery. I had it for nearly 6 years and although I loved its practicality I certainly didn't buy it for its looks.
As for buying a Rodeo to stand out in the crowd :D You obviously drive with your eyes shut :D:D:D

Yeah but they dont look as good as a rodeo

How do you manage the equation

Best = Looks Good ?

Apart from the fact that looks are just about totally irrelevant on a four wheel drive, let alone a major factor in determining "best", "looks good" is very subjective, and you'll find it hard to get any agreement at all.

Before you decide what is next best you have to decide on the criteria for best, and it is unlikely that looks will feature very high in this. In any case, since we have agreed that Landrovers are best and we are looking at the next best, it seems that the criteria for best are ones that Landrovers do pretty well at, so given this it is a bit hard to see a Rodeo doing all that well on these criteria in view of how much weight has obviously been put on offroad performance.

You go away for a day or so and the forum goes nuts.

The thing many people dont realise is that even though a rodeo has 4wd its not really built to do what cruisers, patrols and landies are built to do. A rodeo is a work ute initially targetted at farmers who need 4wd to get around the farm. Even though over recent year the likes of hilux, triton, narvara and rodeo have become more of a recreational vehicle than a work truck they still compromise wheel travel in order to retain some deal of carrying capacity. Matt

In order to settle the whole Rodeo vs LR thing we need to look at it objectively:

Here is a LR Defender Ute:
http://www.truckworld.com/shows-events/98-germany/15.jpg

(Horn, right ?!)

Here are some Rodeos:

Some people crash them as soon as they buy them, just to avoid the embarassment of being seen driving them in public:
http://www.aaa.asn.au/NCAP/images/Crash%20images/Rodeo01.jpg

Two-tone paint option is shoddy at best:
http://www.supportalight.com.au/rodeo.jpg

Ground clearance inadequate for off-road work:
http://www.amgaustralia.com/specials/index_clip_image001_0014.jpg

And they do get stuck. This one is being recovered by, oh my, it's a Defender !

(details here: stablesyanchep.com.au/4x4/rodeo.html (http://stablesyanchep.com.au/4x4/rodeo.html) )

Isuzu make a bloody good truck, and imho as a former truck owner, operator, fixer, modifier, and salesman, are streets ahead of all the other Jap. truck makers, and most of the Euros in the light, medium, and lower heavy classes. Look at the sales figures. The buyers are voting with their cheque books. I would even say that they are the only Jap. maker who could be considered to make a bloody good truck. They also make bloody good engines for sale to others, 4BD1 & 4BD1t for starters, the Thermo King light-weight 3.5 litre six cylinder, etc.

They might not look as good but appearences ain't everything. We have rodeo's at work. Biggest, most guttless pieces of crap with a clutch to match.

Nissan Navaras ?

They are a pretty looking beast, no doubt about it:

http://img.fowles.com.au/1922/19228881F.JPG

Apparently they can go off-road. This one seems to have fallen off the bitumen into a culvert - look, it's tyres are dirty !

http://www.michaelis-tuning.de/c/ann.jpg

However even Nissan themselves recommend you carry an alternate form of transport for when the Navara breaks down:

http://www.tbwa.pt/tblogwa/archives/media/nissan%20tt.jpg

of course, additional precautions of the same type are necessary when travelling on the beach:

http://parkers.dailyrecord.co.uk/imagecache/file/590/archive/LCV/Nissan/Navara%20(05-)/NMGB_274_05.jpg
