I don't know Zook but in the morning I can look at mine for you. Mine had that strange spacer on the drive shaft though so it might not be a real 130 shaft.

FTC3245 -- 110 to KA930434
FTC3905 -- 110
FTC1250 -- 130
FTC1249 -- 130 (some TD5 Crew Cabs were fitted with FTC1249 in place of FTC1250)

Thats what we thought. I know the bit I got from Ace that weekend is so long that the spacer no longer fits. I still havn't put the shaft in but I think its actually 5mm to long so might have to get it trimmed.

thanks guys.....the original shaft that i broke.....has the part number FTC4198.....
the part i was sent is FTC3905......and its about 1 1/2 to 2 inches longer.....
it has written on it in white texta by the wreckers....defender '02 5 speed.....
i wouldnt have expected any difference between '02 and '03 either......
all that changed was that they fitted tie down loops in the cargo area......

only thing i can think that might have happened is if your deefer has a sailsbury diff as opposed to a rover diff. the sailsbury is some 40mm longer in the pinion than the rover diff.
If the tail shaft is from a rover fitted deefer and your trying to put it on a sailsbury the shaft will look too long.

this is strange......
maybe someone with an '03 fender could take a look at theirs out of curiosity to see what they have.....
and make sure not to break it.....as it doesnt seem to exist......

Sorry of no practical help here Tony, however, with an Avatar like you have, and an opening line "I need a bit of help...." one can not help but think Yes.

G'day Zook:)
Tony, check if there is a supersession on that Part No that you have stamped on you shaft, or see what Part No they list for you vehicle by Vin No, it wouldn't be a South African built unit by any chance, as this could have abearing on parts fitted.
I hope thhat isof some help. as if Landrover are the same as they used to be in the Leyland days the supersession list often were only one typed sheet attached at the front of a parts book:(

i thought of that too.....but i havent seen any superceded numbers anywhere.....
and scouse looked it up via VIN and said it is the right part number.....
i was told when i bought the car that they were built in south africa......
but there was a program on the net somewhere where you type in your VIN and it tells you where the
vehicle was built/assembled......mine came up solihull.......
i will be sending the tailshaft back so they can see it themselves and hopefully work out what is what......
fingers crossed.....

but it seems as though no one has a listing for that part number......It's a "good" number on the Land Rover system but they don't have one in stock. It doesn't supercede to a new number.
BTW, you do have a UK assembled Defender:) .
Now for the bad bit - the shaft is $522 list.
PM sent.

What would it cost to have the old bits swapped over to a new custom shaft? Plenty of places make them.

Was that without using the old yoke and slip joint, i.e., all new parts?
If it used the old parts, that's pretty exxy.

Hi Tony,
I apologise if it came out the wrong way, I was giggling when I wrote it. My apologies.
It was not meant in a sarcastic way, though I can see now that it may have come across that way.
It was late, and I should have mentioned below I was chuckling at the time.
Best Wishes.
